Guests will potentially need a test in order to travel and attend the wedding

Hello corona brides! So I’m scheduled to get married in Puerto Rico (USA commonwealth) in late January of 2021. Starting July 15th, the local government will be requiring all tourist traveling in to either bring a negative result Covid test from their respective states or take a free test at the airport upon arrival. If you refuse to do so you’ll have to quarantine for the next 14 days. I’m a little torn by this. On one side it will put us at ease knowing that most of our guests will be tested and we can have a worry free celebration (still following CDC guidelines). On the other side I’m not sure if this will further discourage people for traveling since this will become another thing they have to do in order to attend. Just curious if anyone is going thru something similar and what your thoughts are?

They stated that they’ll be monitoring the situation and if the USA cases go down by the time of my wedding this may no longer be a requirement.

Its hard to tell how each person will feel but i think you are right on both fronts, mandatory testing will certainly turn some people off to traveling but i def agree that testing upon arrival will put you at ease about having your gathering but honestly this just may be the new normal if one is bent on traveling.

Question, do you have to wait for the results of the test also when taking it upon arrival?

Just asking as I have hear that it takes a few days to over a week the get the test results sometimes. If they have to take the test but get the results and get to leave immediately that would seem reasonable. If guests have to take the test and than wait days for the results before they can go out to explore the country. Now that would change a lot of people's plans as they would have to arrive early enough in advance to be able to attend the wedding after waiting.

Like PP mentioned if they can just take the test at the airport and get results soon after then I don't think it would be a serious hurdle for people. I would probably rather do that then have to find a clinic in the states in get it done.

I personally wouldn't care if I had to take a test, I take one once a week anyways. My fiance and I love to travel so if that's the case so be it. Smiley smile

I’ve looking it up and it says that it is a rapid test. Results should be available fairly quick.

I'm not sure what you are torn about. Mandatory testing for visitors is up to the local government, so you don't have to decide if you like it or not. But I do think you should let your guests know about this requirement ahead of time, so they can make the best choices for them.

I think you should definitely give your guests a heads up on your wedding website (and keep monitoring the situation for updates), but I don't think taking a test will further discourage anyone from attending your wedding!

As a guest my main decision would be if I felt safe traveling, and hearing about that required testing would actually make me feel safer!

I’m in the same boat! Getting married April 2021 in PR and just hoping everything dies down and we gain some sort of normalcy. Pleas keep me posted on any updates you may hear. I’m hoping this pandemic doesn’t discourage my guest as well.

Good luck! Where’s is your wedding? I’ll keep you posted on anything I hear. The closest it get to the fall the more I start to realize that postponing it may be the best solution. Most of my guests haven’t bought airplane tickets or booked their accommodations.

It’s in Carolina, PR. We actually thought of postponing it but are still holding out hope. We’ll decide what’s best come late fall early winter. We can only pray things ease up some and we can have the wedding of our dreams. My wedding planner actually mentioned all her weddings from 2020 have been pushed to spring 2021 with approx 75 guest lists so she’s hoping everything can still go as planned as they get ahold of things out there.
