Hi,

I am going to look at a wedding venue this week that looks perfect. The only issue is it is slightly over an hour away from where I live. I dont see this as being an issue seeing as we live kind of in the middle of nowhere, but my mother in convinced if we get married "that far" away we will only end up with 50 guests instead of 100.

What have your experienced with guests having to travel this distance?

Whoever wants to really be there will make it. And you're reception ends early enough for people to drive back where they will still get home at a reasonable time.

To me, an hour is nothing. that last wedding FH and I went to was over 1000 km away (that would be a 9-10 hour drive all in one go). the groom is a very close friend of FH, so we drove from Poland to northern Germany for his wedding.

if it means something to people, they will find a way.

We're getting married where we currently live, which is an hour to an hour and a half away from both our families, and of the 130 people invited, 104 are coming. AND we did a hotel block and only about 20 rooms (8 of which are bridal party) are booked. So I think you'll be okay! You pick a venue because you LOVE IT! Not because you are afraid of the trip for other people who may not have shown up anyway. Otherwise you'll always wonder what it would have been like to get married there, and comparisons are never good!

Coming from l.a. Driving an hour is nothing. My work is 1.4 miles away, and driving there in the morning take 20 minutes. (Hence why I ride my bike to work)

The closest person to my venue is about 45 mins away. Most are around 3 hours. We haven't had any complaints. Turn out is about what I expected and most are getting hotel rooms. I'm used to traveling far for my friends weddings, so I really didn't see an issue with it. Even for weddings close by, we usually get a hotel room to avoid and driving.

FH's family is scattered throughout the city we live in and even the surrounding states so there is no way we can please everyone. We made it in the general region of us and since the ceremony and reception are in the same place, the only travel everyone will need to worry about it getting there and leaving.

If people show up, that's awesome and I couldn't be happier. If they don't then oh well I will get over it.

I think you are fine with an hour distance I wouldn't think that would be too much of an issue.

Thanks for your input ladies. You all made me feel much better. My mother is still convinced only half the people I expect will come (which makes me bummed) but the worst part is she hasn't even told me that. She just keeps saying it to my fiancé!

I'm going to see the venue tomorrow. Here's hoping I fall in love with it.

I hope you love the venue or find what you are looking for.

I am dealing with travel time between church and venue. I literally, today just left TK because I was lashed out at. I don't think I'm returning to that site anymore that was the second time it's happened.

Anyways, yes I agree with the ladies. The people who really want to see this momrnt in your life will come, if they can't, don't think they don't love you just that something is keeping them from coming.

My inlaws are telling me that only 70-80 of our 166 guest list will show up just because my half of the guest list is from Cali and Hawaii. I'm still holding out hope! ^_^

CT is a small state. Driving an hour will get you to just about every corner of the state if you're centrally located. If you are worried about guests driving, a hotel would probably be your best bet.
