Guests Paying for Engagement Party

2ndTime, on December 9, 2016 at 1:43 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 38

No question here, just... ick. This came out of a conversation about a kids' birthday party invite that required guests to pay $25 to attend.

What are people thinking? Ugh.

A link on the invitation where they can pay their admission?

Omg no. That is so rude. I would probably just decline my invite.

Maybe if you can't afford $60 a plate, you should have the party somewhere else

Get ready for the cash bar, honeymoon fund and the expectation that guests more than cover their plate at the reception.

Where do people get this stuff? Like who is out there spreading the word that this is OK?

I would love to know how many people actually end up going this shit show. Probably not many.

If I was paying $60 for a plate, I would rather go out on a date with my DH.

What is wrong with people? If they can't afford to properly host a party, scale down or don't host one.

Wow. I can't even believe people think that's acceptable? If someone sent me that invite I'd laugh and promptly throw it away. What's the point of inviting guests to a party that you're hosting if you're asking them to pay for their own meal?

I guess they'll be having a very small engagement party. Maybe just the two of them.

The birthday party for $25 per head/kid, which was what prompted the post, was even sadder to me. Poor kid will probably not have a lot of guests at his party. Smiley sad
