What do you do when folks rsvp past the deadline? Wedding is a week away and people are just starting to send their rsvp in! On our invite it says deadline to rsvp is the 5th of August. One friend just minutes ago said she's bringing a plus one that is an acquaintance of mine from many years ago....
What do you do when folks rsvp past the deadline? Wedding is a week away and people are just starting to send their rsvp in! On our invite it says deadline to rsvp is the 5th of August. One friend just minutes ago said she's bringing a plus one that is an acquaintance of mine from many years ago. Another is apparently coming, but never sent back her rsvp. One more just sent her rsvp with a plus one a few days ago. We sent in our guest list to our vendors for food and seating a week ago. I'm not sure that there will be enough seating for all now. What do I do, just assume someone else won't show up? Or do I see about adding more tables to the mix? Help?

Thank you. Finally a similar comment to mine. In my culture (Vietnamese) we always book extra 2 tables or so (20 extra guests) in case more people show up. I think it's great to have more guests. But I guess different cultures have different mindsets.

Wow. So glad I’m not the only one. It is hard for people to wrap their head around the collective response to weddings where RSVPs are largely ignored because the entire village is invited. 😂

My sister's wedding had almost 500 guests and she knew maybe 30 of them LOL My parents invited all the neighbors and their families. And they all really did show. The 2 extra tables didn't get used however.
I also wonder if the bride and groom can edit the RSVP list if certain guests said they were coming but never actually RSVP'd. My boyfriend and I were sure to come to a wedding of a family member and told them so. But my boyfriend never did RSVP because he didn't pay attention. He kept getting asked until he went online to reply. Is it not something that can be edited by the hosts themselves? I'd assume some guests would just call or text (especially close family members) to let the bride and groom know they're coming.

I'm that a-hole that stuck hard to my RSVP deadline and I only reached out to people who have been recently involved in our lives for confirmation on lingerers.

This works a little better for me because my venue is a concert venue and is letting me stick to a hard guest list policy, meaning if your name isn't on the list, you're not coming in the door.

I think it's super rude for people to assume plus ones are ok and last minute adds are ok.

So I say give a hard, really sorry but we have to say no.

Blame the venue policies, if you have to. That's what we're doing.

Also mention that final count has been submitted to the venue and catering.

I recently missed an RSVP deadline. But I just got the invite in the mail end of August, it was postmarked beginning of July! I guess it got lost at the Post Office, found it then delivered it! I told the bride this and she was like oh crap it probably happened to others.
