Guests and covid

Lindsay, on September 20, 2021 at 11:14 AM Posted in Planning 0 12

I have a guest who just had her plus one test positive for COVID (we're less than a week out from our wedding). Her boyfriend is fully vaccinated but still got sick Smiley sad Of course her boyfriend won't be coming to the wedding anymore. She's planning to get tested multiple times before the wedding. She is also fully vaccinated. Do I kindly ask her not come because of exposure or is that not my place?

This is really up to you. If she continues to test negative, I’d probably let her come, but I know others wouldn’t feel that way. The reality is that any of your guests could be exposed between now and your wedding and not even know it.

That is up to you but if she tests negative then I don't see a problem with her coming.

While it is completely within the scope of reasonable to request she not attend, Sarah brings up a very valid point that any one of your guests could unknowingly be exposed prior to your wedding.
We recently had a large family reunion where no one was sick and no one had any known exposure to Covid. A week later, 6 people (from 4 different families) present are now covid positive. Obviously someone had unknowingly been exposed and were asymptomatic.

Thanks everyone! I'm going to let her come as long as she tests negative Smiley smile You all brought up great points that anyone could have been unknowingly exposed - my friend is just lucky she knows it and can get tested

Is she quarantining away from her boyfriend, or constantly still being exposed to him? Because if she's been apart from him this whole time and constantly tests negative, I'd say it's fine. But if she's still been around him after he tested positive and still is around him throughout the week before your wedding, I'd personally say no.

Agree with above, unless she has been quarantining completely separate from him for at least a week, she should not attend, regardless of test results. Tests, especially the at-home variety, are very susceptible to false negatives. The difference between an unknown exposure and your friend is the knowing about it . I’m not in the camp of wanting to test or prove vaccination status for all guests, but TBH I would be pretty upset if I found out about this as a guest.

She is quarantining away from him with no contact! And will be just shy of a week by the wedding day

    If she’s testing negative - especially if she’s vaccinated - she’s fine.

The choice is yours!! Sadly this happened to one of my bridesmaids and she will not be able to make our wedding on Sunday. It sucks big time, but ultimately we want to keep people safe and healthy as we celebrate!

I would actually strongly encourage you to not invite her actually! My fiancé and I had COVID in April, and we didn’t test positive for a week and 2 days after our direct exposure to someone who tested positive. And we know that that was the source because we completely quarantined ourselves after we found out we came in direct contact with a positive person. We tested everyday too. So just be cautious.

Request that she does a PCR test and not a rapid as PCR tests can detect even the lowest viral load from recent infection and a rapid unfortunately can miss it. She can always follow up with a rapid the day before your wedding or day of but a PCR is her best bet for accurate results since your wedding is so close.
