Guestbooks...do we really need it!?

Dayna , on February 10, 2019 at 1:05 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 10
I love the shadow box idea where the guests write a small something (and small because the hearts I’ve seen are like an inch big!) and drop it in the top of the box. This is my second marriage and his first. I remember my first time not many people signed the guestbook.
So FH and I were discussing....do we really need one?? What will we do with it after? Will it end up in the attic or a box and forgotten about?
Pros and cons to the guestbook....thanks!

We skipped it and had zero regrets. I knew it would end up in a closet somewhere.

I got one just cause I got it for super cheap and though 'why not'? But its definitely not needed.

We had a football jersey autographed by all of our guests. It worked great for us because husbands last name is the same as a local nfl player and we are huge fans, had a sports themed proposal and a bit of a sports themed wedding. We will frame it and hang it with all of our other memorabilia. If we hadn’t had that idea, we wouldn’t have done anything.

Nope, not needed and why have an extra "thing" around the house? If there's a piece of decor you want anyway, get that signed--an engagement photo, artwork, wall puzzle, etc.

For our DW, my hubby's mom had given him a Disney Pirates poster years ago before she passed away and we decided to have that signed by guests--something special we can also think of hubby's mom. Sadly, the photographer forget to get a photo of the guestbook table but the poster looks like this:

We had one because it was something we figured we "had" to do. If you don't want to, skip it. We literally threw ours away when we were Marie Kondoing our house because we had less than a third of the people attending sign it and it was just signatures, not sweet notes or anything like that. It was unnecessary and wasn't something we were ever going to sit down and look at. We did keep the cards we received though because those were more meaningful to us.

Second marriage for us as well. We did not really want a book that would be laying around. We decided to do wine bottles. There were 4, each to be opened on a specific anniversary. I bought the labels and sign on Etsy. We received a Jeroboam of wine as a wedding gift, so we had everyone sign that as well.

Thank you! It would be easy & fun to find art/poster you both like and just have guests sign that (unless you have 100+ guests--that might be tricky).

My I accidently left my guestbook at home and it never made it to our ceremony or reception. My fiancé and I honestly did not care about the book to begin with. Everyone kept telling us we needed one.
