Guestbook or No Guest book

My mom and I are at odds on this subject. She says everyone has to have a guest book and that it's something you need so you can remember the day and who was there. I feel like it's a waste of time and paper because it's not something I am going to pull out to read. My daughter is 10 and I can...

My mom and I are at odds on this subject. She says everyone has to have a guest book and that it's something you need so you can remember the day and who was there. I feel like it's a waste of time and paper because it's not something I am going to pull out to read. My daughter is 10 and I can literally count on 1 hand how many times I have looked at the guestbook from her baby showers or the hospital when she was born. I have pictures that I look at often but not the guest books. She did find a cute idea where everyone writes on their own page and then you add a pic from the wedding to their page of them. That wouldn't be so bad to me. Is a guestbook a must though? I don't even keep cards to look at later from holidays or birthdays though. I literally read them and toss them.

We're either going with an "advice" guestbook and open it on whatever anniversary, a picture frame, or "leave a note for the bride and groom". I like the leave a note one best. I think its cute and funny and we'll enjoy reading through them all.

There are lots of unique guest book ideas out there. My FH and I collect globes so we are doing a globe guest book like the photo attached. Then we can have a keepsake to display with our other globes!

I definitely wanted to get something that we could display. There are lots of options out there, as others have said! We are having a guest "log":

Aren't the PHOTOS so you can remember the day and who was there?

We aren't having a guestbook because I don't understand the purpose. You don't have to have one if you feel the same.

My parents have a traditional and very beautiful guestbook from their wedding and it's displayed with their china. They have never opened other than to complete Thank You cards. We're doing a shadow box guest book. The guests can sign a heart, drop it in and we'll seal the top to hang in our home. I'm DIY-ing it but it will look something like this one.

Same! I hate thinking of what a waste the guest book would be but i think it is useful for sending out thank you cards (also a waste IMO- isn’t that why we buy party favors?) I vote skip it.
