Guest wearing white to a rehearsal dinner

Ashley, on June 7, 2019 at 3:53 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 13
Is it ok for guests to wear white/ivory/cream to the rehearsal dinner? I feel kind of weird about it. My mom wants to wear an ivory dress with small colorful embroidered flowers on it... I think I wouldn't mind if she hadn't kept pushing to wear white-ish dresses to actual weddings (including my own...). When we were dress shopping for me, she actually pulled out a silver wedding gown and asked if she could wear it to my wedding! I was like mom, you do realize that's an ACTUAL wedding dress right? Not just a white dress you like, but an actual wedding dress?? 😑😑😑
I don't think she's intentionally trying to steal attention, she just sees pretty dresses and doesn't really understand why she can't wear them...

For my bridal shower i actually had my MOH write a note in the invite to not wear white. and i made a note of that in my invites too for the wedding. if you don't want someone wearing a certain color especially white, it is ok to note it.

It's a rehearsal dinner. I also don't think that anyone is going to confuse your mother for the bride, no matter what color she wears. I don't see the big deal.

I personally don't think it's a big deal. My mom wore a white floral dress to my bridal shower. No one thought she was the bride lol

Until joining wedding wire I had no idea brides wearing white to anything but the wedding was even a thing. This doesn’t happen in my social circle at all so I don’t think it’s a big deal that she wants to wear an ivory dress to the RD.

I don't think it's a big deal and I don't think that'll take the attention away from you at all! I can see why you'd be annoyed at her wanting to wear a wedding dress though, I'd be annoyed too even though I don't know what it looks like. But the pop of color on the dress she wants to wear seems like it won't be completely ivory.

Personally, I’m with you. No one should wear white to a wedding event but the bride!! I was at a wedding last weekend and I kid you not, 2 girls were wearing white dresses!

It would bother me but I know it wouldn’t bother some people. I would never wear white to someone else’s wedding related event so it confuses me why the same thought wouldn’t occur to other people.

This really isn't a hill to die on, as long as she doesn't wear white to the actual wedding!

I would never wear white to someone’s bridal event. Especially a white dress. It’s odd to me.

Lol it's not that I think anyone will confuse her for the bride! More like I've explained to her time and again why it's not appropriate to wear white to weddings (two of my friends' weddings she either wore white to or wanted to wear white to), and then she even wanted to wear an actual wedding dress to mine. So I guess I'm just a bit sensitive on the subject because it just feels like she keeps pushing the issue and ignoring what I'm saying. It's definitely not that I think anyone will mix us up.

I've had enough issues with my mother and her apparel for this event that I might flip out if she did that. And I'm not planning on wearing white at any point. I understand where you're coming from.

I had one guest show up to my wedding in a white dress but it had colorful flowers on it. I honestly do not think that she did it to be rude.
