Why would that be rude? We are having a very small private wedding ceremony on a Friday afternoon with dinner immediately after. I have been to numerous weddings where they only invite a certain people to the dinner and the remainder come after to the reception. I don't find that to be rude at all.

View Quoted Comment Well you didnt specify that the ceremony was only immediate family. If that's the case and you're just inviting parents, siblings, grandparents and their SOs then thats not breaking etiquette. Just invite everyone else to a "celebration of marriage"
