Guest List

Hannah, on November 29, 2024 at 11:54 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 1

I've been doing research for months on what seasons I would prefer, colors, etc but I know one tricky thing will be the guest list. My main choices would only consist of my parents, grandparents, and other close family members, excluding others that I haven't spoken to in a while, and they also live out of state. Any advice?

The more people, the bigger the expense. Have you and your fiance each write out your “must invite” and “nice to invite” lists. Often, it’s recommended to invite in circles (so if you’re inviting first cousins, you invite all first cousins, etc.). Based on how many people are on your combined must invite lists, you can then decide if you are adding any/all the folks from the nice to invite list based on venue occupancy limits and budget. Depending on family dynamics, you may get push back from parents about people they want to invite. It’s up to you and your partner if you want to include their wishes as well. If they are paying for a portion of the wedding, they may feel entitled to their own guest list as well.
