Getting married in November 2028, and we are already trying to put a list together (I am mostly because I know who he wants and doesn't want). I am close to family on my mom's side, but I haven't seen any on my dad's side in a long time. I feel obligated to invite them, but we want to keep a small guest list, any advice would be great please

I'm the same way. So for my dad side invited them but also gave them the option to watch my ceremony on Facebook live. So do what you can.

You don't have to invite anyone , not even immediate family if you have a rocky relationship with them.
However : it also depends who is paying for the majority of the event... If your parents are, they have a solid say and will likely dictate a part of the list...but If the two of you are, then you are entitled to do whatever you want.
