Guest in white

Weddingguest, on January 28, 2020 at 3:36 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 19
I have a friend who sent me this image of a dress that she plans on wearing to our mutual friends wedding and asked me if it was appropriate to wear. I've always thought you weren't supposed to wear any white on a dress if you are going to a wedding but she disagreed. What do you all think? Yay or nay on the dress?Guest in white 1

I've always been told not an all white dress to a wedding, so the bride stands out. I've worn dresses patterned with hints of white in it.

The rule is that you never wear anything all white and bridal in appearance . So at a white tie, black tie, or formal event, everyone in gowns, you never wear all white. At a more casual wedding, someone could wear a white pantsuit with a colored blouse or accessories, or white palazzo pants and top, or white background with a bold colored pattern dress. But not a lacy white cocktail dress, even if the bride is in a ballgown. Lacy white is too bridal. That dress has a strong colored pattern, and is not at all bridal, so it is fine.
You never upstage the bride. This also means you never wear anything more formal, of any color. If the bride is wearing a cream colored dressy suit, or tea length white eyelet dress, then any formal wear, even a glittery gold lame long sheath or a pink satin ball gown is a no no . Though not white, it would be more formal than the bride, so a big NO.

This is fine. No one would mistake that dress for a wedding dress. Hints of white are fine, just not a white dress.

That dress is green not white so it’s fine. Nobody will think that’s a wedding dress.

The dress is mostly green, so it's fine. No one will think she is the bride.

A white dress by a guest would be inappropriate.

That dress is 90% green, so I would say its fine. It won't take any attention way from you.

That's not a white dress, it's a green dress. If you plan on banning anyone from wearing any white ACCENT colors, be prepared to be labeled bridezilla. You just don't want anyone trying to steal your thunder by trying to look like a bride.

That's perfectly acceptable guest attire. There is zero mistaking it for a wedding gown in any way.

I wouldn't care if a guest wore white....no one is going to mistake her for the bride.

Yay. It's not really white aha. I think the concept of no white means not in an entirely all white dress that can be mistaken as a wedding gown

I think this should be okay since the dress is actually green with white on it. I doubt this dress will take away from the bride standing out Smiley smile

That dress is green. No one will even think it's white even if it has small white accents on it.

Like others have said, since it's mostly green with just white accents, it's totally fine!

I think this dress is fine. If she was wearing an all white dress, that wouldn't be okay, but this is fine.

The dress can have white on it, it just can't be all white or predominantly white in a bridal way. Like there are a number of floral print dresses that have big colored flowers on a white or cream background and those would be fine to wear. The dress shown is a green dress with a white outline on the lace pattern and is appropriate to wear as a wedding guest.

I think this dress would be fine. It is green and does not stand out as bridal attire.
