Guest count survey?¿ Etiquette

Ciera, on July 5, 2020 at 12:28 AM Posted in Community Conversations 0 11
Thoughts on sending out a pre-invitation survey to guest to see if they would feel comfortable attending a wedding, or not in the fall while adhering to all safety guidelines.🤔🤔

Bad idea, good idea 💡 thoughts?

I feel like that’s something to speak to everyone individually and personally

I’ve read on here about people doing that.

That's a discussion best left to individual conversations rather than a mass email type thing. Pick the date that you want and send out save the dates. Those who feel comfortable will do what they can to attend and you can livestream the ceremony for those who can't make it. No matter what date you pick, there will be someone who can't attend so pick a date that works for you.

I think if they aren’t comfortable, they will politely decline. If you still want to have a wedding and don’t care about the amount of people you have, I wouldn’t worry about it. But if you do care and you’d like a large wedding, it might be beneficial for you. This will give you a better idea if you should proceed or postpone. It’s really what is most important to you.

I think this is a good idea! but as others have said send them personally and individually so they don't feel embarrassed or on the spot about opening up to you with any concerns.

Completely understand where you are coming from, but you may have a very low response rate. I did something similar for a bachelorette party (just a dozen close friends) and still had to prod people to respond.
Contacting people individually to get their answer as well as reasoning behind it (what changes will impact their decision?) may be more insightful.

I think it's hard to know. I have a wedding I've been invited to out of state in November and I have no idea yet if I'm going to go. Things with this virus have changed so much month to month, so it's hard to know what will happen 4 months from now.

I think it’s a good idea, and wish we had thought about this earlier.

It's a good idea but make it anonymous. People will be more honest.

Can I ask what would change your mind to saying yes? I think if I send a survery individually to everyone and if they say maybe knowing we have 4-3 months left and anything can honestly happen, but if a response is a maybe I would assume that is a no cause if things change or don’t we still wouldn’t have a vaccine to provide to everyone and be in the same position

So, for instance, I am in NJ, which has a quarantine instituted if you travel from, at this point, 19 states. If the wedding is not located in a state on that list, I would be more likely to attend. I can't afford to take off 14 days upon my return. I would also want to know if it was going to be indoors vs outdoors (more comfortable with outdoors), how many people are estimated to be there vs the number of people the venue can traditionally hold, will people actually be wearing their masks (even here, where it is required, I have still seen many, even employees, not wearing them in places). I am ok with some risk in the sense that there will probably not be a vaccine, but there are some states who's guidelines I trust a little less as can be seen by spikes in so many states who reopened way too early. Even here, rates are starting to go up because people are crowding the beaches and boardwalks.
