Guest count decrease

Latonya, on October 21, 2019 at 6:17 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 1 10
I had 4 people call and say they are not coming. Is it reasonable to decrease the guest count and save on catering before we pay our last deposit? The restaurant should be able to so this right? Our wedding is in 12 days. The last deposit is due this Friday. The contract doesn't state anything about this and we don't have food and beverage minimums for this venue.

I don't see why that would be an issue if you haven't given your final headcount?

Absolutely, especially if you're doing so before the payment is due. I'd say it's much less likely you could do it after the payment!

I know with my reception venue, it states in the contract that we can not take away from the number we estimated, which I just made sure I only said the ones I absolutely knew who was coming. But we could always add to up to the day before. I will say my reception is really small and we are doing a riverboat dinner cruise.

If the contract doesn’t say anything about it, it would be reasonable. For us we had a final headcount due I think 10 or 14 days before the event— after that point, our headcount became our minimum — if anyone canceled, we’d still be on the hook to pay for them (though we could add additional guests up to 48 hrs in advance)

If there is nothing in the contract then I would say yes. I would call tmw rather than waiting til tour final payment is due and just tell them.

Sure! Just check your contract to see if there’s a “final count date.” I think ours was 7-10 days before our wedding.

You’re coming down the home stretch! 🎉

I don’t think it should be an issue, my venue lets me tell them up to 2 days in advance
