Guest Count & Coronavirus

Cara, on March 11, 2020 at 8:32 PM Posted in Planning 0 9
Would love to get some opinions. My wedding is Friday, April 3, 2020 Here in Orlando and I’m concerned that a travel ban may be put into place.

I’m still planning to move forward with the wedding, however a travel ban would affect my Guest count, perhaps significantly. If for example 20 people cannot come, that would not fall within the “grace” that my venue offers. Ultimately I don’t want to tell the venue I have 100 Guests confirmed only to have a travel ban and 30 guest are now no longer able to attend.
I’ve reached out to the venue but does anyone have any thoughts on the matter? Would appreciate any insight. This seems like a very unique situation.

I am planning for elderly and those who live far away (esp internationally) to possibly not come and am going to reach out to them proactively.

My RSVP date is today (April 11th wedding in Tampa) and will work with my current numbers but may reassess in another week and let people know that if they need to cancel for health reasons to inform us asap. Doing this mostly by word of mouth.

Does the venue still charge for that amount of guests or you cannot have the wedding there due to lack of guests?

My family has discussed this as we have only 17 guests. We are trying to stay positive and those who were flying can always drive. If we loose the majority of the guest list then so be it. It will be one heck of an expensive day for a few people but nonetheless it will be our wedding day. There is nothing we can do about this virus and unless forced, we will not cancel the day that we have looked forward to for so long.

Hi Cara! Fellow Orlando bride Smiley smile)). I would reach out to the venue and hear what they say. I know the pandemic is an additional stressor.
Where exactly is your venue ?!?!

We are getting married on a college campus and every college in our area has closed down as a precaution and switched to online classes for the rest of the semester so we wanted to know what was up. We called the venue and they informed us that the weddings would be business as usual and we would not be penalized for a lower guest count. So definitely just wait to see what yours tell you. It's not your fault what's going on right now with the whole world.

You are not alone. Our wedding is 4/4/2020 and we are in the same boat. We had our first cancelled guest today. We have family from Norway so if they can’t fly here we will be down 20 ish guest. It’s a very stressful situation. I hope everything for everybody’s weddings in the coming weeks goes as smoothly as possible.

My destination wedding is on May 16 right outside of Orlando. 90% of our guests live in FL so they are driving but my FH and family will all be flying down from VA. We have 54 confirmed guests as of now but I'm also nervous what the next 2 months will bring but everyone's health and peace of mind comes first of course. We can drive down if the wedding is still on but what a bummer we have to worry about this.

I hope everything works out for us. Wedding planning is stressful enough without an overhyped pandemic. 😔 Hang in there!

I think that would make sense then to reconfirm with guests closer to the date
