Guest book?

Are guest books necessary? Will the guests be wandering around looking for one?

I don't think they're necessary, though just something nice to have (if you like looking back on that kind of thing). My husband and I did a photo guest book, and I love seeing all the fun photos our guests put in our book. As a guest as weddings, I don't go out in search of the guest book, though if I see one, I will sign it.

They aren't necessary, but I've never been to a wedding without some type of guest book even if it's not actually a book. Our guest book was two jerseys - one hockey and one baseball.

They aren’t necessary. I’ll be honest, I pretty much never sign them. I also didn’t have anything like that at my wedding, and no one asked.

Guest books seem to be going out of style with people either not doing them or doing something else in place of them. Such as the photo book and the audio recording phones. So no they aren’t necessary but it is fun to have a unique keepsake from guests! Smiley smile

Once another poster likened it to a funeral sign-in book, and now I can't unsee it. However, there are creative options like audio or a photo guest book. Opting out can save $ as some of the books themselves cost $50.

I don’t remember signing a guest book at either of the weddings I’ve been to in the last couple years, and now I feel bad because I don’t know if they didn’t have them or if I just overlooked them lol. But that tells you how much I was seeking it out as a guest…

I think it depends what kind of wedding you're having. I am having 20 people and no guest book or "alternative" guest book. I'll have my photographer do a picture with us and all our guests and call it a day. Being I'm having so few people I won't have a problem remembering who was there.

Thanks for all your input! I just reread the Photo Booth contract to see if we need to supply a table, a d in there it said they supply an album for all the duplicate photo strip! People have the option of leaving a little note as well. Who knew? 🤣

We skipped the guest book and did a photo booth as the alternative and were able to get all guests. I went to countless weddings as a kid as a guestbook attendant, and getting people to sign it (usually the book of 100 pages where only the first is written on) was a nightmare at every single one. Even with taking the book around the room throughout the reception, only 1/3 at most had any intention to sign. Based on that, we skipped it. If guests wanted to sign anything, they were free to but no pressure.

I've always signed guest books. I'm doing a quilt instead of a book. Guests will sign squares with a fabric pen, then I'll piece the blocks and finish the quilt afterwards.

I did a 2 in one..A wedding sign that is acrylic. So it came with a marker that the guest can sign...so it's a wedding sign/guest book...

These days you can do anything you want for guest sign ins. So many different options. Having anything is not a requirement, no. In my own little opinion, it is part of the wedding tradition, just as ..dare I say, it is to sign your John Hancock when you attend a viewing or a funeral. Maybe it's old school, but there are some things that are just quite nice to continue to do. All of the weddings I have been to BUT ONE have had something to sign to show the guest's attendance. All different types of things as well. I would think that most people know protocol and look for one upon arrival to the reception. Majority of the time whatever form of guest book one does it is usually stationed by the cake table, the entrance or the card/ gift tables. We have opted for the old-fashioned version of the guest book, where people sign their names, and many times leave small notes/ well wishes besides them. We have also opted for the new "retro" telephone recorder, so we will be able to hear all of our loved one's voices for many years to come. As the night wears on, those messages (with the alcohol flowing) should be... entertaining to say the least. I can't wait for that. It is going next to our old fashioned "Write your name" Guest book and will both be located on our gift and card table.

No!! Not necessary!! I had a picture frame with our names in the center & everyone signed a heart and dropped it in! Easy to hang on the wall rather than having a book buried on a shelf or a box! Loads of unique ideas on Amazon.

We made a photo book for our guestbook. That way it’s something we’ll enjoy looking back on instead of just a book with peoples names. Definitely not necessary though, if you prefer to not have one!

I’m using a service called after the tone where they send you a retro phone for the reception and your guests leave you messages, then the audio is pressed onto a vinyl record! I wasn’t going to do anything in terms of a guest book until I learned about this company. I love the idea of actually hearing your loved ones, especially for older relatives who won’t always be around!
