Guest Book Attendant

SoonToBeSummers, on September 3, 2016 at 3:36 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 8

Our DOC said we need someone to sit by the guest book at the church and make sure people sign it, and also to take gifts if people bring them to the church. I can't think of a single person that I would want to be working during this time.

Is anyone covering your guest book?

Honestly people are smart enough to find the gift table and sign a book without an attendant. If they can't find the table, I'm sure someone will be nice enough to point them in the direction.

I would ignore you DOC on this point. As you already know, no one wants to babysit your guest book and it would be really rude and insulting to ask someone to do this.

No. People know how to sign a guest book. It is not an honor to be a "guest book attendant". It's a crappy job that no one wants. Ignore your DOC on this one.

Also I've never seen people bring gifts or cards to the church. They are brought to the reception.

Where I am from people do this. BUT they usually ask a child to do this. Like someone who isn't family around 12 years old or so. My venue comes with a planner and I haven't really needed her so I am going to see if she can do it if I need someone since I am paying for her.

I think this is more of an old school tradition. Most weddings don't have a guest book attendant. I agree - totally unnecessary.

My aunt asked me to do that at her wedding. There was nothing more awkward than standing there telling people to sign the guest book. If I were you I wouldn't do this.

Thank you everyone! I'm glad to see I'm not the only one who thinks this is weird. Our DOC is older so I think it's just what she's always done.
