Guest attire suggestions

Laura, on March 25, 2022 at 12:48 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 3 10
Looking for recommendations as to what to suggest to guests for our wedding this year:

- Leans a bit more formal
- Bride wearing dress w/cathedral train (see pic); groom wearing European style tux. - Family doesn’t dress up normally- Can be up to 100 degree weather during day (YIKES! September/summer in CA)- 5:30pm ceremony start time - Ceremony and reception outdoors. - Our theme is Tuscany inspired

Gorgeous venue! Say semi formal or formal if you must have a dress code. While keeping the weather under consideration. Otherwise unless the venue requires a specific dress code (usually only in white tie situations which are more formal than black tie) to enter the premises, let them dress themselves because guests are not props.

Wow, stunning venue. (PS, what is it about the tux that makes it European-style?)

As a guest who does appreciate being given a dress code, I think you could suggest semi-formal and then the time and temperature will dictate the rest! Formal would lend itself to floor-length gowns, so I think semi-formal might go with your vibe better!

I think so too. Def not formal. But semi formal could work. Are cocktail and semi formal the same thing? Totally not good at this!

Only problem is my fiancés family hasn’t been to a wedding in like 30 years lol. He is the first person since his aunt to get married but I’m sure they could figure out a wedding isn’t a place to wear jeans and a t-shirt lol. Always thought you had to give a dress code but you learn something new every day! Thank you for letting me know.

Good to know! You always have the best answers. My fiancés family hasn’t been to a wedding since my fiancé was born more than 30 years ago so my only worry is I hope they would know to not wear jeans and a t-shirt lol. But def want them to wear something they’re most comfortable in and most importantly that’s weather appropriate.

I personally think that you should indicate a dress code. I've never been to a wedding without a dress code specified - I'd imagine if you didn't, then you could definitely have people coming in very casual attire. As a guest, I always appreciate having a dress code to know what vibe I should fit.
