Groomsmen wearing their own personal suits?

Courtney, on April 27, 2016 at 2:18 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 19

My FH and I are doing our best to be considerate of the cost for people to not only travel to our wedding, but also the money spent on attire! We settled on navy blue for the groom and groomsmen, asking them all to wear their own dark blue suits. I know they won't all match exactly, but has anyone else done this/is doing this? I'm worried one groomsman may stick out more than the others, etc, with a variety of different suits. On the other hand, the "mismatched" bridal party look is in style these days...

Thanks for your input!

I actually think that will look great! Maybe do similar with the bridesmaids dresses too.

Yeah I like this idea a lot! The differences will be subtle and I think it's refreshing when the suits are different.

Do they all already own navy suits? If most of them don't, then I think your better off having them buy the same one, since they'll have to buy one anyway. If most own navy suits already, then this might work. I would have them all buy the same dress shirt as those vary a lot in style.

My cousin was gonna do the mismatch bridal party with her bridesmaid! She canceled her wedding, but they had a variety of color! It is different and a good idea!

This is what we're doing, too! I think it will look nice!! And I'm willing to handle a little color variation if it means saving the guys the expense of a new suit or rental.

Mine did, however they still all wore black suits. I don't think anyone noticed. Looking at pictures, I don't even notice. They wore white shirts and matching ties that the groom bought for them.

My bridesmaids also wore dresses of their own choosing Smiley smile I Just picked cocktail length and black. They looked great!!! I like the mis-matched look. Plus most girls were able to wear something classy that they already had. I also wanted it to be easy and affordable for them. I had a short engagement and they all flew in to the wedding. It worked out very well.!

My MOH and her husband are doing this for their wedding. It works out really well for us since FH will wear the same suit at their wedding and ours.

We are doing it with black suits. But they bought them. The variety of styles really showed their personalities. I can't wait for pictures.

We did with black suits, and bought shirts for them. It looked absolutely fine.

We are having the groomsmen just wear a black suit.

FH doesn't like tuxes and doesn't want the guys to have to rent anything either.

I think that would work, but I'd suggest making sure they all get the same shirt and tie to give it a more uniform look.

My MOH's husband did this for their wedding with black suits. It looked great! I'd agree with PPs to give them uniform shirts and ties as part of their gift.

The groomsmen in our wedding all wore black suits. Two already had black suits and one had to rent a suit.. The suits differed slightly (small pinstripes, lapels), but a black suit is a black suit (in our eyes). Worked out for us. Smiley smile

Yes we're doing this with light grey. Not everyone already owns one, but they also have a choice of what to buy. I personally don't mind a non-uniform look, but I've also heard that a photographer can easily edit a picture so all the suits look the same color.

Thanks for everyone's advice! We will definitely be matching the shirts and ties, even if all of the navy shades of suits are slightly different.

We are doing the same, and I think it will look just fine. We only asked them to rent the vest and tie (only 40 dlls) from Men's Warehouse and we bought the handkerchief and boutonnière for them.

It will look great, and you will be just as married at the end of the day. FWIW, I just stood in my brother's wedding in August, and he and my BIL just asked the GM to wear black or gray (so less matched than yours)-- the men looked great, and it was, by far and away, the best wedding I have ever attended!

My husband's 4 brothers were his groomsmen. We wanted to reduce the hassle and expense for them of renting matching suits by just asking them to wear their own suits (which is something literally every adult man already has). The parameters were a plain black suit (no tuxes) with a white dress shirt and black dress shoes and belt. The day of the wedding we gave them matching ties and boutonnieres which standardized everyone's look. I'm VERY particular and even I didn't notice their outfits weren't an exact match!
