Groomsmen Bout? and Bouquet Etiquette Help

Winter Bride, on September 21, 2017 at 10:14 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 11

I plan on giving my bridesmaids sunflower bouquets so does this mean it is only "right" for us to do the same for the groomsmen? Give them the bout to wear because the bridesmaids have flowers?

My FH has a plan for their attire however we both might not know the answer to this.

The men don't have to wear boutonnieres, but if you're looking for an alternative, it depends on what they are wearing. A pocket square works for a suit or tuxedo, nothing else.

I second the pocket square or perhaps you can get a flower on the same color scheme? Or if the sunflower bouquet has any "filler flowers" maybe you could incorporate boutonnieres with the filler flowers (i.e. bouquets have baby breath flowers, while boutonnieres have baby breath flowers as their bouts)

Pocket squares would be good, also uniquely patterned ties if you don't want solid ones. It would be nice to do something to differentiate them. Why don't you want bouts?

I don't think they are necessary and a sunflower boutiner might look odd?

^ Hannah, we got mini silk sunflowers for the boutonnieres at my cousin's wedding that I did all the floral arranging for and they looked fine. But, I don't know if that would be a possibility if OP wants real flowers.

I really dislike boutonnieres on guys when they are not wearing a suit jacket. I think it looks really odd when it is just pinned on a shirt. If they are going jacketless than I would skip the boutonnieres.

Okay cool! We're doing fake sunflowers with the ladies. I found some DIY boutonnieres instruction on the internet that I think of replicating for parents and other "special" guests. The costs making the boutonnieres add up so if groomsmen don't need them for etiquette sakes, they can wear pocket squares. That is fine with us! Smiley smile Thanks for the comments

We skipped bouts because H didn't want them, but the dudes in our WP had matching pocket squares and ties which H bought for them. It tied everyone together really well!

Are your guys going jacket-less like the photo? You could go bout-less if just in a shirt. The options may change based on jacket, vest, suspenders, long tie, bow tie. I say go with what you like the look of. Just because the girls have bouquets doesn't mean the guys HAVE to have flowers too.
