Groomsmen attire

Alexa, on November 22, 2016 at 9:01 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 12

FH and I are having a catholic ceremony but we don't want a fancy wedding. We have decided our groomsmen will wear gray suit pants, a white shirt, suspenders, and a bow tie.

FMIL has been making comments about how she doesn't think that is dressed up enough for the groomsmen to be walking up the aisle.

We are also going to tell guests that there is no need to wear a jacket considering it's a July wedding and we don't want people to be uncomfortable.

Is FMIL right that our groomsmen won't look dressed up enough for the church?

Hmmmm - Why can't they just wear a full, light gray suit and remove the jackets later on at the reception? I also don't think you need to tell people they don't need to wear a jacket - they can wear one if they prefer, and remove it if they feel too warm - as most men typically do during a reception anyways.

Well I had to crop it so you can't see the whole thing but this is what FH wants to wear and I love it. We aren't getting married in a church but it's simple and I think it's still very dressed up. I think what you're describing would be just fine

Because I'd much rather they buy pants and a shirt that they could re wear than rent a tux just so they can have a jacket(that we don't even want) for an hour. Also I've heard plenty of nightmare stories about tux rentals I'd rather avoid it.

We want a more causal and relaxed wedding. We are just going to note it on the website if they feel inclined to wear one that will be fine but I'd like to offer that they don't have to.

We did gray suit rentals from Men's Wearhouse - They almost looked like a tux, but they were not. We were also married in a Catholic church.

I just think for a church, no jackets on the groomsmen might look like they forgot to get fully dressed.

I think grey suit is something they would wear again, not tux. I would have to agree that they would look better fully suited.

As for the guests, no need to say anything to them. They know how to dress comfortably.

Men's Warehouse is running a deal right now on Kenneth Cole Suits - 249 instead of 649. If you decide for them to buy a suit (it's just slightly more than the cost to rent) I just thought I would share. This is what my FH is going to do. The sale goes through this Sunday I think. FH thought it would be more worth it for his groomsman to spend 250 and get to keep a nice suit rather than rent and not get to keep it.

ETA: I guess I'm not sure if this is a sale everywhere, but it was at our local Men's Warehouse here in MN.

I love that grey suit picture- where does one order those suits in that color? I can't find them anywhere for my groom/groomsman???

On the one hand - a button down and tie are definitely formal enough to be at any church, but I do have to admit that I'm not sure if I've seen groomsmen without jackets on for an indoor church ceremony. There are suit rental places or stores like Jos A Banks where you can get really cheap suits, and they could take off the jacket after the ceremony. But it's totally up to you!

This is what our guys wore for our Catholic Church wedding. Most took off their jackets for the reception.
