Groomsman in khakis - show me pictures

Mrs Cheapskate, on March 31, 2015 at 9:46 AM Posted in Planning 0 22

So, in the interest of keeping costs down for our 2 male attendants, and to keep with our not so formal theme, Im thinking of skipping having the BM and GM wear a suit. Plus on August 29th in Minnesota it is typically hot and humid. So, could you show me pictures of your wedding party, where your guys wore khaki pants? Id like to see what they wore with them to dress it up. Did they wear a jacket? A tie? A fun summer shirt? Did your girls have matching bridesmaid dresses or just a nice dress from their own closet? What did your groom wear if your attendants were in khakis? FH mentioned wanting to wear a short sleeved dress shirt under his suit jacket, so that after the wedding and pictures he could be more comfortable at the dinner and cooler while dancing at the after party. Thanks!

So, the groomsmen wear no jacket? I like it. What do you think about short sleeved white dress shirts with the tie? Would that look weird?

This was a friend's wedding. Her groom and groomsmen wore khakis with short sleeve collared shirts, but no ties. I think if you wanted to add ties it would still look ok. either way the look works.

(I blanked out faces since this isn't my photo to share around the www)

ETA - I guess they are not short sleeved shirts, so much as long sleeves rolled up, but it still gives you an idea of what a short sleeve would look like

@Missey - I love that for a beach wedding, but its a little too casual for my church wedding, I think.

I personally dont like short sleeved shirts- they will all wear long sleeve with ties- only FH will wear a blazer.

Short sleeved white dress shirts make me think of Mormon missionaries on bicycles. Add a nametag to complete the look.

(Sorry lived in Utah for four years... that's the first thing my mind goes to with short sleeved dress shirts. I've seen very informal weddings were it has worked).

Short sleeve dress shirt = Dwight Schrute to me. I would stick with long sleeves. I like jackets too for a church ceremony. It can always come off later.

I'm getting married in Minnesota as well! I'm doing khakis for the groomsmen- they will have an ivory long sleeved shirt that is rolled up, and probably suspenders. FH will be in the same, but with a vest. Keeping is super casual, and while June isn't typically so humid, I don't want them getting too hot- we're having an outside wedding.

2 years ago fh was in his brothers wedding. They had khakis, white dress shirt tie and had a matching khaki vest. They were linen and super comfy.

Hmmm Im still stuck on the short sleeved shirt....so maybe I will go with a summer jacket and tie for wedding and pictures and have them lose the latter for the reception. Then it would just be khakis and a short sleeved white shirt? I will talk to fh about it tonight and see if I can convince him just to do the rolled up sleeves. Ugh long sleeved shirt, tshirt under, and a jacket...theyre gonna die! Lmao

@MrsCheapskate Oh don't worry, I'll have plenty of bugs pray! I'm actually getting married on my parents farm! I'm pretty excited about it, it's the one thing I knew had to happen when I got engaged. The reception will be in the community center in town- I know we wanted to invite a ton of people to the dance, and it's easier to have them contained than wondering around the countryside.

On a side note, my cousin got married a few years ago on August 13 (actually at my parents farm, too!) and it was a gorgeous day out- not humid in the slightest. You might luck out and get a beautiful day!

FCIL had khaki(ish) pants with beautiful blue jackets. They kept it casual with white shirts with the top one/two buttons unbuttoned.

They look really white in this picture. They had a slight khaki hue in person.

This is what short sleeves and a tie makes me think of, every time.

I agree. I have so many pictures that go through my head when I think of short sleeve dress shirts and none of them are something you would want as a look for a wedding! My FH likes to wear light long sleeve dress shirts and roll them just above the elbow. I always think it looks really nice. Just make sure they are made of a material that breathes well!
