Grooms Tux

Jay, on October 27, 2022 at 11:48 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 12
Hi all, wondering if I can get your opinion. Our wedding is scheduled for December, Im a classic style groom. I don't want anything to wild but I definitely want to stand out and look like its My day. My Fiancee, is wearing a white dress, as the groom I'm considering wearing a Custom Tux white jacket with blk lapel and black pannts or custom Tux Ivory jacket with blk lapel and black pants. The Bridesmaids are wearing red, and the groomsmen are wearing black tux How would the Ivory vs white compare in winter of 2022 . I appreciate your input, Thank you in advance

Since we're talking about classic style, the traditional rules would say that an ivory dinner jacket is only an option for warm weather, and that "self faced" ivory lapels are the best way to go. (Black lapels on an ivory jacket didn't become popular until around the 1970s. NO GOOD STYLE IDEAS COME FROM THE '70S!)

But nobody really knows about that stuff these days so you're safe to ignore the warm weather "rule." I do think it's worth considering an all-ivory jacket though - that's how all of the greats have done it, from Bogart to Bond - see below.

Ivory has always been the traditional choice as opposed to pure white. Some people will tell you that you shouldn't wear ivory if her dress is white because it makes her dress look "dirty." Those people should be ignored, as should the people who will tell you to get an ivory tuxedo shirt instead of a white one. Those are ideas held by wedding salespeople, not by those who are knowledgeable about fashion and formal wear.

Sorry for the black tie lecture!

Hi Congratulations to you both now alot of grooms are wearing a custom jacket for their day as well. I love the look on the grooms these past years so a white jacket with a red vest and red bountaire will make the statement you want. My FH is getting a custom jacket as I like to see him in he can pull off any color so. I cant wait to see him on Sunday what he has chosen to wear. So when you go to find the look for you have fun with and choose what makes you feel special day for you to

I would suggest ivory dinner jacket w/ivory satin lapel (more traditional, photographs better than white), white tuxedo shirt w/spread color, black self-tie bow tie (vs skinny pre-tied), black tux pants. With your boutonniere, tailoring, and style, you will definitely stand out as the groom. This look would be classic and has more wearability for future events. To make it more wintery, you could wear velvet loafers and/or velvet bowtie. If in creative circles, how about ivory jacquard or brocade?

Good luck, keep us posted. Slight correction re: what was posted above, since I'm a pedantic jerk: Ivory satin lapels on an ivory dinner jacket aren't completely unheard of but it's much, much more classic to have the lapels made from the same material as the jacket so if you're going with something custom that's probably the best way to go.

Hi all, I'm happy to share I decided to go with an all Ivory jacket. It looked and felt good on me. There were so many options that looked good but I'm going to keep it classic. Thank you again for all the support!
