Groom’s Tux

Erin, on September 13, 2019 at 7:12 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 20
Is $450 a reasonable price for a tux? My FH really wants to buy one instead of renting so he has something nice to wear in the future when we are hopefully able to out to more nicer things (like the symphony 😍) he found a site, and i’ll Admit they look good in the pictures, but the jacket and pants are $450. To rent it would be $125 so he’d only have to wear it 4 times in order to make it worth buying.

I don’t know anything about tuxedos and how much they are supposed to cost, but I know they can get insane. I’m mostly just really proud of him xD he’s a “tactibro” who likes being “tacticool” And I was fully expecting him to somehow find a tactical suit or something. But instead he was looking at nice, normal evening-wear

I've seen suits range from $300-600 so you're not too far off base.

$450 is a really good price to purchase a tuxedo.

Is he willing to maintain his current weight/build in order to get enough use out of it?

He’s arguably more vain about it than I am haha. He developed a bit of a dad-bod after our daughter was born 2 years ago and he’s been really cognizant of his weight ever since. So I think he’d be able to.

Sounds like a fair price for an actual tuxedo. Menswear can get just as pricey as womens for the good stuff like nice fabric.

I used to manage a tuxedo rental store, that's a really good price if he really thinks he'll be able to war it again. Do you guys do a lot where he'd need a tux more than just your wedding?

That seems like a decent price for a tux. If you know he’ll have use for it in the future, I would consider that a solid investment.

We're most likely going on a cruise for our honeymoon, which will have at least one fancy dress night, and he could wear it to the nicer dinner place they have on the ship, and we're hoping to be able to go to "fancier" places as our daughter is getting older. She starts pre-school next year which will save us a small fortune on daycare bills xD So I think we'll be able to find the time for him to be able to wear it at least the 4 times to do a little better than break even on the cost.

Unfortunately I'm in Colorado, so that'd be quite a trek to get there xD

I agree with pp's that $450.00 is a good price for a tux, especially if he can wear it as you said on the cruise and formal outings.

My fiance's suit was $400 from Indochino and it's custom made for him -- you can do tuxes there, too! We caught a sale so it was cheaper, and then there was a deal with accessories, so his full outfit of suit, shirt, tie, pocket-square was only $400! The nice thing with Indochino is the fittings are free with purchase!

I will be getting a custom suit/tux through Indochino. Fully customizable and tailored to you. It’s an investment. But well worth it. My groomsmen will also be getting suits through them. Good luck.

I think its actually pretty good. FH bought a suit at Dillards for almost 700 for a friend's wedding.

Does that include alterations & shirt too? My husband works in public accounting, so he is in suits quite often. He did find a Calvin Klein suit on Amazon for $150 (crazy!) but typically spends $300-$500 for jacket, pants, shirt & alterations (sometimes they throw in belt or pocket square or tie or shoes depending on the deal).

It’s just the jacket and pants. They take his sizing down and provide the suit/tux based on the information provided. The shirt they offer is $80, which seems like a lot for a cotton dress shirt. He has shoes already.
