Groom’s Mother is passed

Alaina, on March 13, 2018 at 10:59 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 23
My FH Mom passed away. Will be 2 years by the time we get married. So , we asked his niece to do that dance. Niece is 24, he is 45. What song can they dance to? I’ve been searching but I haven’t found a song I love.

Both my fh parents have passed away it will be three years for both. We decided that instead of the traditional dances we are having fathers dance with daughters and mothers dance with sons. We picked songs for each dance that his parents liked..

That doesn’t help me, lol! Both his parents are deceased. We are having him dance with his one and only niece. Just looking for the right song.

I think we need more information about the nature of FHs relationship with this niece. Has one been a strong support to the other through difficult times? I one a "role model" to the other? Or is it a more of an equal, sibling-like relationship?

My DH has no relationship with his parents so danced with his nieces but they were much younger (8, 10). They picked Shake it Off by Taylor Swift. I would stick with something upbeat and happy.

Some good ideas on this list:

My father passed away a year ago. Will be two years once we have the wedding. My mom is going to walk me down the aisle and dance with me, but we are going to make it fun.

My mom and I will start off with a normal slow dance and than break into a fun upbeat dance. At that point my sister will join us. We want it to be a happy moment not sad. I mean no matter what it will be sad but we will do something that would have made my dad smile.

Have you thought about maybe asking his niece what song she might like? Maybe the two of them can talk about it and pick a song together!

She’s 24, he’s 46. They are super super close. Always have been! She calls him everyday, they text all the time, I love you is exchanged more then it’s not. I would say it’s more like siblings. They do lots together, including drinking!! They have a very small family. My FH only has left one brother and his one niece and one nephew.

Because all those people you mentioned he doesn’t have or they are passed away. His niece is the most important to him.

We surprised her by asking her to be in the wedding and asking her to do this dance! We’d like the song to be a surprise too. FH isn’t any help with picking lol

How awesome of your FH to do! I am dancing with my mom to “I hope you dance”. In this situation are you looking for more of a song for your niece and FH? Or a song to commemorate his mother? Also is there a genre you’re looking for? I’m super happy to help you search, just let me know!

“Forever Young” might be a good one! Sound like she might keep him young haha
“hold us together” by Matt Maher - it says my brothers keeper in it but seeing as how close they are it could work, maybe.

I thought I wanted a song to remember his mom, like “mama song” by boys to men. But I asked my best friends husband who was in same situation and he said it was a bad idea. So I don’t know. My FH and his mom were so close. I know she wouldn’t want all of us crying like crazy.
Thanks for your suggestions. I’ll look into them later. And thanks for helping. I think country or 80 90 today would work too. I’m going to listen to your suggestions

Good riddence by green day might work as it doesn’t really relate to either the niece or the mother but it’s about just the unpredictability of life and choosing to have a good time anyways.

You have no idea who is important to OP's FH. Why would you ask this?

Wind Beneath My Wings - Bette Milder

Stand By Me - Ben E King

You've Got A Friend - James Taylor or Carol King

You Raise Me Up - Josh Groban

Time After Time or True Colors - Cyndi Lauper

I'll Be There - The Jackson Five

    Hope this helps.

FH is in the same situation, except he'll dance with his godmother, who was his mom's best friend. They'll dance to "Never Alone" by Lady Antebellum!

I didn’t say I didn’t know who’s important.I know who’s very important to him and it’s his niece that’s why were choosing his niece to dance with him. I was simply suggesting or asking about suggestions for a song for that particular dance

You misunderstood. My post was directed at Becca who was questioning why your FH chose his niece over someone else, and I said OP (you) already knew who was imporatant.
