Groom's cake flavors

Grechen, on December 2, 2016 at 1:14 PM Posted in Planning 0 16

Hello everyone! My FH is obsessed with Almond Joy candy. He's also a lover of Girl Scout Samoa (caramel delight) cookies. I'm wondering if anyone has ever done or is doing a cake like this? I'm also interested to know if anyone has done any other non traditional flavors and how they turned out?

@Lisa, I agree! I saw lots of cakes online with the peanut butter cup theme and cupcakes done like an almond joy candy, but not a big cake to give me a visual!

We are having my 2 flavors of smores and cookies and cream and then his 2 flavors of watermelon and mango. They weren't my favorite but he apparently loved them.

@Dustin & Ariel, the smores cake sounds amazing! I never thought of fruit flavors aside from my fillings.

Yes! I'm not much of a baker, but I pulled off a delicious Snickers cake for FH's birthday. I used a chocolate box mix, mixed marshmallow fluff and peanut butter for the filling/icing, then drizzled caramel on top with some crushed peanuts on the edge. I've done smores too. It's similar, but no peanut butter, sub chocolate ganache for the caramel, and use crushed Graham Crackers instead of peanuts.

If I can do it, a pro baker should have no problems! I would think the caramel delights would just be caramel, toasted coconut, and chocolate flavors? Almond joy could also easily be made into a cake!

Cakes can be any flavor you want! I think ours are going to be funfetti (fiances favorite) lemon, and carrot cake, each tier a difference flavor.

Our groom's cake is chocolate hazelnut with raspberry filling, and they had a lot of "different" flavors to choose from!

@MrsSkiToBe, A snickers cake sounds delicious!

@Robin, funfetti sounds so "fun"! I do love a good carrot cake with cream cheese frosting! Yum!

@Eileen, I love chocolate raspberry, would a hazelnut version taste similar to Nutella spread (if you've had it before, of course!)?

Yes it definitely tasted like Nutella! Nothing too overpowering, but you definitely got the hint of it, I loved it!

I am making the groom's cake myself. I am making him chocolate peanut butter. Trying to decide how to decorate it. I am an experienced baker and it will be served at the rehearsal dinner not the wedding.

Thanks everyone! These all sound delicious. Now I may have to convince him to have more than one cake! Smiley smile

We are doing cupcakes! A white, chocolate, and for ours a fall (spiced caramel apple) option for miscellaneous! Gives people options so we love it!

If I was making an Almond Joy cake, I would make it a chocolate cake and between the layers I would put a thin layer of ganache, then a coconut filling with whole almonds pressed down into it. Then the whole cake would be covered in a layer of ganache. Are you having it decorated to look like something specific or are you just going all out with the Almond Joy theme?

@WWLaura, that sounds like the perfect combination! I'm not sure how it could be decorated on top. I realize the actual candy isn't necessarily eye pleasing. I haven't seen any examples online so maybe I could bring the picture I have with peanut butter cups to the baker and see about substituting your yummy recipe idea (if that's ok, of course!) Thanks again for the responses everyone!
