Groom’s attire for a big guy

Kimberly, on February 15, 2020 at 11:30 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 8
I need some help with FH attire for our March of next year wedding. I am not good with men’s clothing at all. I have already bought my wedding dress and our wedding will be small, about 30 guests, close family and best friends. FH’s daughter (will be 17) will be my maid of honor, FH’s son (also will be 17) will be his best man, and my 9 year old at the time daughter will be bridesmaid/flower girl. We are getting married in March in the mountains in Gatlinburg. Ceremony (and most likely reception too) will be outdoors on a large wooden deck overlooking the mountains. Neither of us think tuxes are necessary but I just don’t know what the best option would be. My FH is a big guy so that has to be considered as well. My thought is a suit, but would that still be too formal for what we are doing? Or is a suit a good plan? What color? Other options? Any visuals would be great for me as I really am clueless about what looks best for men.

Not sure if it’s needed or if I just want to show it off, but here is my dress.... Groom’s attire for a big guy 1
It’s a blush/ivory color. I appreciate all suggestions!

I honestly have been really digging the suspender look lately (nice pants, nice white shirt, nice tie/bow tie, and the suspenders). If you don't want to do a full on suit, I've also seen a lot of vests lately, which are still really nice! I feel like the suspenders could also add to your mountain look a little bit, but that might just be me. Suits never fail to look good, and I feel like classic black or a gray tone could look really amazing.

(I love your dress by the way!!)

I love the idea that the PP had! I think you’re right on a tux - our venue is a pretty room at a brewery and a tux didn’t fit our vibe either.

My fiancé got a custom blue suit from Men’s Warehouse - the price was incredibly reasonable and it only took about a month and a half to come in. I highly recommend it if you go the suit route!
Side note, I haven’t seen it (we are doing a true first look at each other on our day), but my mom said that it is amazing and fits really really well.

Pants, shirt, suspenders is a great look, or pants and vest if you want something a bit more casual than a suit. However in March in the mountains (even in Tennessee) I would think it would be a bit cooler so the guys might want to wear a jacket, in which case I would just go with a suit, or pants and a blazer. You should check with your FH.

My FH and his groomsmen are getting made-to-measure suits from Indochino, which may be a good option if you are trying to fit a different-than-average size. My FH is pretty barrel chested/deep chested, so off the rack stuff rarely fits well and certainly never looks tailored. Buying is more expensive than renting, but all the guys can rewear the suits in the future, and the suit will look much better because it actually has been tailored to him.

We rented our suits from GenTux. My husband is 6'5" 250 lbs so he is a bigger guy, the suit fit him great. He did get a custom tailored shirt from Men's Warehouse though so it could be fitted to his shoulders.
