Hey guys! My FH is a STRAIGHT cowboy and refuses to wear a tux to our wedding. We are having a barn wedding, very laid back, and kinda small. Please help!

The attire of the couple should reflect the general formality of the setting and occasion. Neither of the two most formal levels of dress, white tie or black tie type of dress, as a tuxedo, is generally seen as appropriate for either a barn setting, or a laid back atmosphere. Usually at most a dressy suit, or alternatively a casual blazer or sports jacket or completely casual outfit is chosen for a less formal affair, not a tux. Also, this is as much his wedding as yours. You choose your gown. He chooses his manner of dress, and has chosen according to traditional etiquette, not to wear a tuxedo to a less formal affair. Are you having a sit down meal with plated service for dinner, which would at least indicate that he should wear a suit, or even a jacket?

He should choose his own attire just like you chose your own dress. If he doesn’t want to wear a tux, then he doesn’t have to.

It sounds like if it’s kind of laid back, a tux would be too much? Something more casual might be suited for the wedding. Plus it’s both of your wedding, so he DOES have a say in his appearance.

Is he planning to wear cowboy boots? Maybe nice jeans with a button down shirt and a vest or jacket. Look on Pinterest for barn weddings and get some ideas.

My guys are wearing shirts, vests, ties, ariat jeans and cowboy boots. I'm the horse person, but my fiance is a jeans and boots type of person so he was all for it.

Have you ever looked at a real western style frock coat. High style, though not formal. What all those guys in westerns come riding in to town I , or wear on their wedding day. A black jacket with black cotton twill pants ( black jeans, but not poly twill.)
Bolo tie or no tie, vest usually . Rougher, but pairs very nicely with a fairly elegant bridal gown. That leather and lace thing. Can be leather, suede, twill, or a woolen blend. Some people call a frock coat a western tuxedo, though it is not a piece of traditional formal wear at all.
Even if just worn for the ceremony.

The style vest properly or authentically worn with it is the higher than European V, closer to collar of a dress shirt that does not require a tie, and more buttons and cut to fall lower covering the waistband or the belt line, and straight across, not shaped to points along the bottom. If your guy likes a real cowboy look, and you want a long jacket, he may see this as a choice. Especially if he likes formal shirts with stand up collars, designed for wear with no tie at all.
