Groom to match bride?

Shauna, on November 1, 2016 at 7:02 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 19

Im wearing a gold/Champaign dress but dont want him to know until the big day. What should i tell him as far as him renting his tux to match? Shirt / tie color specifically.

Basic black is safe. Although gold/champagne is pretty neutral, so it won't clash with much - except maybe grey or silver.

I was thinking more of shirt/tie color?

Navy would look great as well. The people at men's wearhouse told us that the groom should be more neutral. White shirt, neutral tie color (black, white, navy, silver, in this case maybe gold?)

A white shirt is the only color worn with a tux. Bow tie should be black. Are you talking about a suit or a tux?

Another vote for white shirt, black tie

I agree you should keep it simple with a white shirt and black tie. If you have him wearing a gold vest or shirt, it can look kind of prom-ish.

I also vote black suit, white shirt, black tie!

My dress is champagne as well and he's wearing a navy tux. Although it wouldn't matter anyway - your dress is a neutral color. It won't matter what he wears.

I hope it's ok to ask this here. If the dress is ivory and he wants to wear a tux, is white still the only shirt color option?

I work for a tuxedo company and while a black tie event might dictate white shirt/black bow tie....you can and absolutely should have him wear an off white shirt with his tuxedo if your dress isn't stark white or your dress will look dirty in pictures

My dress was ivory and my husband wore a tux with a white shirt.

A black tux or suit would look grand. His tie doesn't have to match your dress but it's a good idea that his button down shirt be ivory or champagne if your dress is champagne ( or dark ivory) because a white shirt will look too stark in photos.

A lot of brides have their groom wear a tie that matches their wedding colors not specifically the dress. What are your colors? Say it's burgundy, blush with gold accents, have him wear a black suit/tux with burgundy tie and pocket square.

My husband wore a black tux with a black shirt and plum tie. White isn't the only option for a shirt.

I think it's important to note that not all ivories are created equal. The first dress I bought was supposed to be "ivory" and it is very, very white.

If anyone is interested in men's fashion, particularly evening wear then give The Black Tie Guide a read. It's online and it's excellent at explaining why all these rules exist.

My dress was ivory over light gold and DH wore a white shirt and a light goldish tie. I told him that hardly any wedding dresses are stark white these days and he was cool with it. Had no idea what I would be wearing.
