Groom no tie/bowtie

Tiffany, on September 8, 2019 at 10:29 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 9

Hi! My FH and I are getting married in April 2020. It's a morning wedding (11am) in a barn, so I suppose it's a little more casual. He wants to wear his blue suit pants and a dress shirt (with brown shoes and belt) but would prefer not to wear a tie or bow tie and doesn't really want suspenders either. I suppose I don't really mind, since it's his day too and I want him to be comfortable. And I know he will still look very handsome! I'm just wondering what I should/could have the groomsmen wear so that they don't match/look exactly alike with FH. I'm thinking grey or tan pants for the guys since I feel like trying to find pants in the same color blue as FH would be a nightmare. Would it be weird if the guys had ties/bowties/suspenders when the groom wouldn't? Should I have them wear a different color shirt than FH? Wedding is still 7 months out, so I wasn't planning of thinking about this all yet but FH said his guys were starting to ask so I thought I better try and figure out a basic idea to work with.

I would go with a nice medium gray pant and dress shirt. I’m not sure I like the look of GM in a tie/bow tie but not the groom.

Yeah me either! I'm just trying to think of options. I think grey would be nice too. Bridesmaids are wearing sage green dresses. The other colors are coral and dusty blue. So maybe I could have the GM in green dress shirts and my FH could just have a white shirt?

I dunno, might be too much green. I guess I’m just a fan of a sharp white button down on guys. I tried to get my FH to put himself & his guys in ties to match the BM’s dresses. He refused on the grounds that it would cost them more. *rolleyes* We’re putting them in khakis and button down. I seriously doubt either has to buy a thing.

I do too, I just don't know if it would make the groomsmen "more dressed up" than the groom if he doesn't want to wear those either.

Would the groom wear a vest? That would solve any issues.

I don't think I'd have the groomsmen wear ties/bowties/suspenders if the groom isn't wearing anything. I like the vest idea if he's up for it, but otherwise I think your best bet is to try to talk him into a tie for the ceremony, or skip everything.

I don't think he would haha. Last time it was brought up he said he looks weird in them. He's worn ties to church before. May have to see if he would be willing to wear one for a bit haha. If not I'm sure all the guys will look dashing without ties

Yeah, I don't think he would go for a vest either. We've brought it up before and he said they didn't look right on him. We will see...I'll have to talk to him again.
