Groom in a different suit?

Melanie, on November 19, 2019 at 10:55 AM Posted in Planning 0 8

Hey everyone! Wanted to get your input. My fiancé found a suit that he LOVES, but two of his groomsmen aren't on board with the pricing. Do you think it would look funny if he wore a different suit than the groomsmen?

Some backstory: When presenting the cost of renting ($260ish) vs. buying just the jacket and pants ($270 -- but we have to wait for a specific sale), all of the guys agreed they'd rather buy then rent. However, we found a package that bundles the jacket, pants, shirt and tie for $399 total (it's a Kenneth Cole suit & we don't pay sales tax in NH). Two people had concerns with the total cost. We offered to help with the cost of their shoes to help ease some of the burden.

In comparison, it is about $260 to rent the suit, shirt, tie, shoes, and belt at a local shop. However, they wouldn't be able to try it on because they live in three different states (ME, NY, and PA).

The blue suit to rent is a solid navy (not too dark or bright blue). My fiance's suit isn't a solid blue -- the fabric has white in it. Here's a link to it -- it looks much better in person: https://www.menswearhouse.com/p/awearness-kenneth-cole-blue-slim-fit-suit-separates-coat-33W133W214

Any thoughts on him wearing a different suit?

I have a feeling my FH will want to stand out and look different from his grooms men so it's not a big deal I've seen grooms where a differently color and it all still looks lovely.

It's not a big deal nor is it unusual for the groom to wear something different than the groomsmen. Our groomsmen will be in navy suits and FH will be in a gray suit.

I actually think it’s good for the groom to wear something different 🤷🏻‍♀️

My fiance is wearing a different suit than the groomsmen. He'll be in navy and the groomsmen will be in a dark gray. I like the idea of him standing out amongst everyone, I will be, and it's his wedding too!

I think its completely fine, and becoming quite normal, for grooms to wear something different than their groomsman. This allows him to stand out from his guys. I like the idea of him having what he wants. I say let him do it!

Thanks everyone! Do you guys like the idea of two different shades of navy?

My fiance is wearing a different suit. He wants to stand out but blend in. I think the groom can wear what he wants as long as it doesn't clash with your overall look.

I don't see anything wrong with him standing out. After all, he is the groom!
