Groom Changing after Ceremony

Victoria, on June 18, 2021 at 12:08 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 6

My fiancée and I have been discussing options for our wedding in two months. I’m from Florida and we could only afford an outdoor wedding at the venue Ive chosen.

He wears a US army uniform for the ceremony in the morning and I think he’s going to look fantastic. Is it weird to ask him to change for the reception into a different tux due to the highly visible sweat the pinks and greens uniform shows? When do most people who have had quick changes during the reception switch outfits? Has anyone’s Groom done a change into a party tux for the reception?

I think it would be quite nice to change, especially if the dress outfit tend to show sweat stains. On the downside, I'm not sure how much cooler a tux would be.

If I may ask, is he not wearing a dress uniform, and are they any better, sweat-wise? I'd imagine both service and dress uniforms would be quite hot, since they're heavy with all the braiding etc so there's probably not much difference between the various iterations.

I don’t think it’s weird at all. He can do it during the cocktail hour.

Not weird at all! My groom is going to have a hot tweed suit on during the Ceremony & will change to a cooler outfit for our reception. He even purchased new semi-dressy shoes for the reception he is calling his "dancin' shoes." lol

I have a friend who is a marine and wore his dress uniform for the ceremony and changed to a tux for the reception, so no nothing wrong with an outfit change

Back when I was in the Army (sooo long ago) this was what people usually did. Ceremony with the uniform (and sometimes first dance) then a change of clothes.
This was long enough ago that the dress uniform was awful polyester so that was reason enough!

I don't see any reason why the groom couldn't change into something more comfortable!
