Groom and his men - vest and tie colors?

Mrs. F-u-..., on June 29, 2014 at 11:19 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 7

Finally got the FH to go look at suits! He really likes the look of a three-piece suits so that's the look we're going for. My ladies will be wearing navy. Wedding colors are navy blue, white, and pops of cornflower blue. My dress is ivory but not too ivory. My accents (sash and wrap) look more ivory than the dress. I hate the look of ivory shirts (too yellowish), I prefer my guy in a stark white shirt. Looks crisper. We're thinking maybe him in an ivory vest and tie and his men in a grey vest and navy tie? Or can they just do a classic black tie? Any ideas? I'll post pics to give you an idea what we're working with. Smiley smile

1st: Charcoal grey suit, ivory shirt, and random leopard tie the guy at the store threw on the FH for fun

2nd: FH and my son in charcoal suits

3rd: White shirt, ivory vest and tie, with charcoal suit

Honestly a micro fiber ivory shirt is better then a white. I used to work at a few boutiques and it looks a lot worse to have a stark white next to ivory over a darker ivory. However what I would do is if you can get a sample of your dress color take that and compare shirt colors( helpful hint if it's a strapless dress should come with spaghetti straps and you can use them)

Could we get away with the guys just wearing the matching grey vest and a black tie? Or do we need to incorporate our colors? The boutonnieres will be white flowers, if that matters. The shirt didn't look too yellow when I took pictures at least, just in person.

Disclaimer: I know NOTHING about menswear, but I'm about to learn! lol

I was going to day the same as Randee but seeing the contrast in your ivory dress and cream sash it matches the contrasts in the white shirt and ivory vest. Other wise id have said do the ivory shirt too. As for the vests do whatever color you want , although I think a gray vest and black tie would look off.

I would say a color tie over a black tie. This way you can still tell them apart when they take off coats and vests in pictures lol. This is just also my opinion, I tend to keep things on a "clean" look. I will try and find a pict if this.

Find you a couple of points of both examples.

I missed the dress pict before and I looked closer at the vests and yes I can tell, lol but I have had way too much time in these and since you mentioned it my eye catches it.

The suit place where my fiance purchased his suit had an option for button up shirt colors of a bright white, eggshell, and ivory. The true ivory was far too yellow to look right with my "ivory" dress. The bright white obviously would not work either. We went with the eggshell color. Maybe this would also be a option for you?
