Groom and Groomsmen: Navy or Black Suit

Hey! We are getting married in the evening n October 26, 2019. The setting is urban/formal in Asheville, NC. We have decided on suits since that seems more fitting for us. My fiance wants to wear navy. I am concerned it's not formal enough. I know navy suits are formal, but its the brown shoes that really throw me off. Then again, I know black is somewhat harsh. I want the wedding to be "formal" so other guests will come in suits. Since its fall, they will be darker suits. Is a navy suit and dark brown shoes too casual? I don't want him to look like he's going to work. I always imagined men in black suits. I am open to navy and think it's super elegant and classy. Thoughts? Just want this wedding to be "dressy" and I would need to find a dark enough shoe for him to wear, but not a black shoe, as he thinks it looks pretty odd.

We are doing navy suits and brown shoes for our wedding next month. I personally love how the blue looks with the brown shoes and don't think it looks casual at all. I think it looks sharp and is a little more interesting than black on black.

Okay, I agree its sharp and interesting. We want to look sharp and interesting! What is exact shoe color you are using? Also, the bridesmaids are in Jenny Yoo Caspian Sea and my wedding colors are jewel tones - so deep rich colors. I think navy would be nice.

We did navy suits with brown shoes. H's shoe was actually an "oxblood" color, and it looked great.

You can wear black shoes with a navy suit, if it's the shoes throwing you off. It's like the one exception to not mixing navy and black.

I really love the look of a navy suit. I don't think there is anything casual about it. I agree that it looks more interesting than a black suit.

I think a dark Navy suit and brown shoes can look very elegant. Also I think everyone looks good in navy where as black can wash some people out. At the end of the day your FH has to wear it and if really important to him I would let him have this one.
