Grocery store for flowers?

Caitlin, on December 11, 2019 at 2:00 PM Posted in Do It Yourself 0 6
My fiancé and I are getting married in May of 2021. My type A personality is putting me way ahead of the game here and I’m already trying to budget for flowers.

We are in the suburbs of Philadelphia. Has anyone ever used a grocery store such as Giant or Wegmans before ? I’ve heard they do nice work but wanted to see about bridal specific flowers.
Thanks!

My grandmother works at a Wegmans and she was told they don't make wedding centerpieces. We considered using them because about a month before the wedding I almost fired my florist. The only reason I didn't was because my husband wouldn't let me. It might have been her specific location that doesn't do centerpieces, but that I'm not sure about. I also used to work at Giant and I don't believe they do centerpieces either. I know both places do corsages and boutonnieres though.

Do you want real? I get the type A because my elopement is in the fall and I have my dress, bouquet and veil and I have already been researching places so in the new year when we choose a date I have places for him to approve and set up. Nothing wrong with booking in advance.

I don’t necessarily need real. I just need something nice that doesn’t end up being 2-3k. We are doing a barn style wedding so the ceremony itself will already have flowers naturally. I essentially will need some bouquets, centerpieces, and boutonnières .

Have you checked Etsy? Some sellers do whole packages for under $1,000. They I believe will be artificial but yeah some groceries do it too.

You can get bouquets, corsages, flowers etc from Sam’s Club or Costco. If I was doing barn, you can get vases at second hand or even mason jars. Add some twine or raffia and add flowers for cute centerpieces.

Are you looking at just purchasing something premade? Fiftyflowers prices include shipping, and they have premade centerpieces and bouquets you can purchase in a large variety of color palettes and sizes/price points. Farmgirl Flowers does gorgeous bouquets and ships throughout the country if you want to splurge a little on your bridal bouquet (I'm talking like $150, not $400, but their work is QUALITY). It's a better way to get florist quality flowers even if you aren't planning to put any arrangements together yourself.

If you plan to DIY, Flowermoxie and fiftyflowers are also great resources where you can easily come in well below 2k.

Just remember labor adds cost, and DIY subtracts from your time on the day of. Think of it like a medium centerpiece would be $60 from a florist, ~$15 wholesale from fiftfyflowers (but add in the cost of a container), and probably not that much cheaper than that if you were to put it together yourself, but gives you the option of using more expensive flowers affordably (their premade centerpieces will tend to be more inexpensive flowers like standard roses and carnations - you could get fancier flowers basically by subtracting the cost of their labor and spending it on more specialty flowers).
