Greeters-

Erin Wood, on December 28, 2016 at 10:48 AM Posted in Planning 0 14

My venue is asking that I have 1-2 greeters to stand in the lobby and help direct guests to the bluff where the ceremony will take place. Can I hire people to do this?

Probably. Ask your DOC. If you don't have a DOC it sounds like you need to get one.

My DOC brings 2 or 3 of her staff members to do stuff like this.

I looked into hiring a DOC but packages start at $1250 and I don't know what I would use one for besides getting greeters. Set up and breakdown is all done by the venue and I have already paid all my vendors. What is your DOC doing for you that makes it worth the money? If all I need is a couple greeters it's probably not worth that much for an hour at most. Do you think I can just grab a couple guys off the street or something? LOL!

@ Fall Bride- I just filled out my detailed sheet for the venue and that is exactly what I said. The venue is not cheap and part of the expense is supposed to be coordination. Standing there for half an hour while people arrive should not be a huge deal. I really do not want to make any of my friends or family have to stand there. I would be annoyed if someone asked me and I then had to sit in the back for the ceremony.

Do you have ushers? Maybe they could help you with this.

My brothers are greeters/ushers. My 3 sisters are bridesmaids so I wanted to include my brothers as well. 2 will be greeters and 2 will be ushers. I would ask the venue if they have suggestions that previous brides have done in your situation. They may have a good contact.

Were you planning on having ushers?

Not planning on having ushers. I am not sure what ushers even do to be honest. We are not having people sit on specific sides so all people need to do is sit down. There will be enough seating for everyone but not tons of extra so having uneven sides is not a concern.

If they're adamant about not giving you wait staff, can you just put a sign up? I'm sure people will figure it out.

Could FH greet guests as they come in? A friend of mine did this at his wedding and it was so nice to see him before the ceremony and have a quick chat with him.

@EW My DOC will be with me for the last two months of the planning process. She will attend all final vendor meetings. Reconfirm services and follow-up communication with my venue and vendors. Create a Customized Weekend Itinerary distributed to the venue and vendors two weeks prior to wedding. Deliver Welcome Packets to host hotel (if we have any). Execute the Weekend Itinerary. 1 ½ hours of rehearsal direction. Assist with delivery of various items provided by the Bride to wedding site. Design Execution: Set-up and Breakdown of basic décor items such unity candle/sand, programs, guest book, gift box/bird cage, table linens, napkins, chargers, table numbers, escort cards, menu cards, favors, cake knife set, toasting glasses, etc. Confirm all vendor arrivals. Ensure ring bearer pillow, flower girl basket, corsages, boutonnieres, and bouquets are distributed to family & bridal party. Line up wedding party for wedding processional and cue bridal party. Review names with the MC, line up, and cue the introductions of the Bridal Party. Facilitate the flow of the Reception: meal served, toasts, cake cutting, toss, etc. Oversee collection of all gifts, wedding items, and load into appointed vehicle or provide to designated person. Distribute payments and tip envelopes to vendors (if applicable). Includes two (2) event managers. Unlimited time on the Wedding Day & basically keep everything organized!

She pretty much makes sure all my family and I have to do is show up.

@MsLauren- Thank you! I am going to be doing all of my vendor meetings myself. Most of them are already paid and just need to show up. My venue is providing all of the set up (linens, tables, chairs, gift table, cake table, favors, bathroom baskets, escort cards, etc.) and rehearsal coordination. I hired a company to provide decor (uplighting, draping, etc.) which they will set up. The florist is decorating tables and the aisle. Bakery is setting up the cake and dessert bar. I will be going over everything with the DJ in the next couple months. They will serve as coordinators as well. I didn't think about getting tips to everyone. Maybe I can find a DOC who just does very basic tasks. I have a tiny bridal party (2 woman and a FG) so I won't need a lot of help in the room.
