Gratutity charges on room fee

What should be covered by the gratuity at a reception venue? We are paying a room rental fee and the gratuity calculation included that fee as part of the total cost subject to gratuity. Should gratuity include only the food and beverage costs?

This varies by venue, so you’d have to ask them and review your contract.

Check with your contract or your venue. My room fee was separate from what they charged gratuity on (mandatory 20% gratuity) but every venue does it differently and each venue applies it differently. For instance, mine was used to top out the bartenders and wait staff, but I know some venues expect you to tip additionally for those individuals. You'll have to check with the venue and your contract to be sure.
