Gratuity hair, makeup and photography

Sara, on December 26, 2015 at 7:41 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 13

Hello! I just wanted to know everyone's thoughts on tipping when it comes to hair, makeup and photography. My hair and make up is coming to my hotel room. From the looks of it, they own their own business. Also, same with the photographer and owing their own business. I've heard many answers, just wanted to know your thoughts. Would you still tip for their services? Thank you!

Beauty services should be tipped like normal (15-20%) regardless of if they own their own business. For other wedding vendors, not necessary to tip if they own their own business but is always appreciated.

I tipped hair and makeup, despite them having their own business.

It doesn't matter whose company it is. You shoulder always tip if the service is good

I think if they do a good job, a tip is always a nice gesture, regardless of the type of vendor.

I always tip on any kind of beauty service (massage, hair, nails, makeup, and wax), so why would getting my hair and makeup done for my wedding be any different?

The owning the biz thing shouldn't matter. People think that owners make a lot of money, but I can tell you that very often they are the last to be paid.

I don't honestly understand tipping photgraphers....

I have budgeted to tip all the beauty services(hair, makeup) 15%. I have not budgeted a tip for photographer. It was my understanding this is not something that is done from reading previous threads on here.

I will tip my hair stylist. I will probably do my own make up.

I intend (if I can afford it and it makes sense to) to tip all my vendors. Including my photographer. Only because I've worked with her before and she's a going out of her way for me. I think she deserves it if the day goes well. I belive strongly in treating the people you work with well if they do you right.

What does owning their business have to do with anything? You're not obligated to tip service providers, but if they do an outstanding job, anything you feel lead to do is always unexpected and greatly appreciated. Typically makeup and hair stylists get tips more often than photographers. It's happened a few times in my career from weddings, so it's not expected on my end, but my eyes lit up when it happened Smiley laugh

I tipped my HS/MUA for our engagement shoot. I tipped her almost 50% actually.... When I went to do my boudoir shoot, again I had her do my hair and makeup. She GAVE me really high quality clip in extensions that she wore once. I tipped her very very well again. When I see her for my hair trial, I won't tip her, but I'm a firm believer in treating anyone you employ well and you'll always recieve excellent service in return. My HS/MUA is worth every damn penny though. I've seen some "professional" makeup trials I could've done better myself. As far as my photographer.... No. We won't be tipping her, but we will be gifting her something small. She hasn't been much of a help.

I was planning on tipping my photographer but still don't have my disc with pictures, just the not so great web versions. I was bummed since those were going to be Christmas gifts. I'd tip your photographer after you get everything if you feel really happy with the quality and timing and others gave good advice on the rest

Thank you for all your answers! I was definitely leaning towards tipping...when I talked to other people they felt like it may not be necessary. I wanted to see what the majority would say and it's pretty clear us brides are on the same page!

Thank you again for all your input!
