Gratuity at all-inclusive venue

Tinderella, on October 24, 2017 at 7:02 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 4

Hi! Any Riverwood Mansion (Nashville, TN) brides out there? It's an all-inclusive venue (full planning, catering, flowers, rentals, DJ, and more depending on package). They didn't explicitly say that gratuity was included when we asked.. only that it wasn't expected. Obviously, we plan on tipping where appropriate so I'm trying to figure out how to calculate the tip when there are bartender fees and server costs on top of the catering costs in the line items of the total. And do we tip to the venue or head server?

Usually the gratuity is added in stated as a service charge. It is usually between 18% on the low end and 25% on the high end. A gratuity is by choice and optional. A service charge is billable and part of the contract. They usually insist on the "service charge" and then you can tip what you would like over and above that. I would find it very hard to think that an all inclusive venue would not include the gratuity as a pre set service charge.

It seems weird that they didn't tell you upfront how much gratuity would be included in your final total. All venues that we looked at that were all inclusive they had the percentage of gratuity in the booklets they gave us.

I'm not sure it matters but I'm in PA and every one of the all inclusive venues had a gratuity percentage of 20%.

Hmm following, I have a similar concern. My venue did charge me gratuity so you might want to double check your contract that they did or did not include it. In my case I was wondering who they share it with, I had planned on asking my venue.

Our venue made it clear that the service charge was not distributed as a tip. When I asked them what the industry norm was, they said 3-5%. I'd ask your venue and see what they say.
