Gratuities are not included

I was just rereading some of the fine print on my venue contract. If Gratuities are not included then what was the 21% service charge for? Does this mean I should still tip them?

If I do 20% of my food bill then that is about $700! That seems like way to much. And I'm having a buffet. So it's not like there will be a lot of servers.

A percentage doesn't really work....too much. I'd say 20-50. per server and if the BT are putting tip cups up, nothing for them. I hate the idea of tip cups but many places allow it.

The banquet fee \ service fee applies with your total bill, it is not a gratuity for staff. It covers all of the back-end costs that go into the event aside from the food itself. We like to ensure that the planning process is as easy as possible with nothing to worry about once you have us on board. As far as actual gratuities go, our staff’s motto is that gratuities are “never expected, and always appreciated.”
