Grandpa as Ring-Bearer-Bearer?

Del, on September 12, 2016 at 9:26 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 58

It's a little bit early to be deciding this, but my Grandpa asked so I'd like to give him an answer.

He asked if my son (Brady) will be ring bearer at the wedding. I said probably not, as he'll only be 21 months at the time and not really able to do it. I was just planning to carry him down the aisle with me. So Grandpa asked if he could carry Brady and the rings down the aisle to us, and then either pass him over to us or hold him during the vows if he's fussy or squirmy on the day.

I can't see any way that could be a problem, but I have an unfortunate blindspot to glaringly obvious mistakes sometimes! So can you troubleshoot for me, WW? Would this be ok?

I have heard on here of grandma's being close girls...so why can't Grandpas be ring bearers?!

Our son will be 2 for our wedding and we are planning on him and a friend's daughter (same age) as flower girl and ring bearer...we will have a back up plan of an adult to carry them or walk with them if they won't do it. (Just not sure who yet)

I think that sounds super awesome. It's an adorable way to involve your grandfather and son together!

I see nothing wrong with that. It obviously means something to him and when you look back at pictures it may end up meaning more to you than you expected

I've seen it where as a tradition, the family had the youngest born at the time of the wedding, carried or escorted by the oldest, and those two bear the rings... I'd say go for it!

Yay! I'm going to call him right now and tell him it's a plan!

He'll be thrilled. The two of them really do have a special bond. Brady was named after that side of my family (my mother's maiden name was Brady). And he adores his PopPop; he always saves his biggest and gummiest grins for him! Thanks for the feedback everyone.
