So my fiancé and I are having a small wedding (30 people) and we’ve already sent out all of the invitations we’re going to, but yesterday my grandmother tells me that she’s been inviting people without telling me?! How can I explain to her that we invited the people we absolutely wanted there and don’t have space for anyone else, more importantly how do I tell the people she’s invited that they’re not?

I would tell your grandmother that due to space restrictions and because of COVID, you have to limit the people that will be at your wedding, and that she (not you) will unfortunately have to tell the people she invited that they are not actually invited.

I would be straight up and just say that unfortunately anyone that has been invited has already been told and that you are keeping it small. Unfortunately she will need to let those people they are unable to come. Sorry that happened, she should have checked with you.

Be firm with her and tell her you have already invited the maximum number of people and will not add more to the list. She will have to be the one to break the news to them.

I absolutely agree with everyone else. You need to tell her that there is no space at the venue for additional people, and she will need to inform the people she invited.

Thank you everyone, I didn’t know if it would be rude of me to tell them no now, but you’re right she told them they were invited so she should uninvite them.
