Grandma as the flower girl?

Anyone having their Grandma as their flower girl? Lol. I saw it as an idea online and have mixed feelings. M If you're honoring your grandparents what do you plan on doing?

I would have loved to ask my one grandmother, but our venue was indoors, and no one was allowed to toss anything, so I didn't see the point of having a flower person. My close/beloved grandmother wouldn't have wanted to be the center of attention. My other grandmother (non-close) would have loved to have ben the center of attention and she would have attempted an award winning performance. I would have never considered asking her ...

Between FH and I we only have one living grandparent, my grandmother. Since she has Alzheimer's, and flower girl is traditionally a role of a little girl, I think it will be insulting and infantalizing to do that. But other grandmas with different situations and personalities it may be different, especially if they are on board, but in my case it would not go over well. I don't know what her cognitive state will be in 8 months when my wedding is, and she has good days and bad days, so I don't really want to put pressure or spotlight on her but do want to honor her. I will probably have my brother, who is one of the groomsmen, walk her down the aisle and escort her to her seat, and will give her a front row VIP seat with my parents, and maybe get her a crosage.

We have friends and a cousin who have a two year old and a four year old so they were our flower girl and ring bearer. Quite frankly, if we didn’t have them, we would have skipped them all together. At her ripe old age of 72 with her attitude, my grandmother would be mortified to be a flower girl. We got my grandparents a corsage and boutonnière that matched their color coordinated outfits and had them walk down the aisle as VIPs, sat in their reserved seating in the front row, and they loved every second of it together. On the morning of my wedding, my grandmother surprised me to tell me her grandparents had gotten married the same weekend as H and I and she had brought one hydrangea from her garden to tuck into my bouquet because those are the flowers my great great grandmother had. We still had a special moment and I got to honor them.

My gram is super important to me (FH asked for her blessing before he proposed), so I had her do a reading during the ceremony!

I think if your grandma is willing, you should.

Since we are older, we are only honoring our parents (his are all gone, mine are in their upper 80s and my mom has Alzheimers and they won't be attending due to distance), our children and grandchildren.

My grandsons and his fiancée have asked the four grandmothers to be flower girls. I am the grand mother of the groom. I am honored to do this for them. At first I wasn’t so sure but after thinking about it it is an honor not to be made fun of. We are all wearing silver dresses by their decision. I’m not sure yet if we’re going to be Throwing rose petals or holding flowers but whatever they want I am ready to apply myself to that.

There are four grandmothers involved in being flower girls at my grandson’s wedding. I am both excited and honored to do this for them. We are all wearing silver dresses and I think we will be caring silver baskets. The rose petals will probably also be silver but that is their choice. I saw where a grandmother carried a glass bowl with twinkling white lights in it for an evening wedding. I like that idea but it is not my wedding.

There are four grandmother’s that are participating in the wedding party as flower girls. We are all wearing silver dresses. It is an evening wedding and I am in honored participant. I will do anything they ask me to do. I’m not sure what we’re carrying yet baskets or flowers or if you have any suggestions let me know.

My grandson has asked me as his grandmother, to be in the wedding party and replace the flower girls. There will be four of us grandmothers so I’m not sure how they’re going to do it yet. But I consider it an honor and will do anything that they ask of me. We are all wearing silver dresses. The bridal party is wearing navy blue and the mothers are wearing burgundy.

I would seriously consider having your grandmother as your flower girl. I was just asked by my grandson to do just that. I was not only excited but honored. There will be four grandmothers two for me at side, and we will be walking down the aisle I had of the bride. I’m not sure yet if we will have baskets and throw paddles that is their decision. I would highly recommend you doing this as your grandmother would be very excited and very honored. What better way could you honor her?
