Grand Exit from Church - Before or After family photos?

Lolerskates84, on August 11, 2016 at 1:14 PM Posted in Planning 0 9

How does this usually work?

Recessional - all exit - then take pics with family - then grand exit with bubbles/rice/flower petals?

Or

Recessional - all exit - grand exit with bubbles/rice/flower petals - then head back inside for pics with family?

I don't do a lot of church weddings, but when I have, the only way I have seen this done is the latter. Then it's cocktail hour for the guests.

From a guest's point of view, I would be pretty peeved if I had to wait outside for the bride and groom to take photos and then exit.

Photos after grand exit. That way they can get some snackage at the cocktail hour, rather than staring at you while you do photos. It's hard to smile pretty when you have a bunch of people looking at you wishing you'd hurry so they can eat!

I would do the latter - although I've been to a lot of church weddings and never actually seen one with an "exit"

I'm assuming by asking the question taking family pictures ahead of the ceremony isn't an option? If not, I'd go with option 2. I'm not sure what the guests would do during option 1. Would they still be sitting in the church while family pictures are being taken?

For what it's worth, we took all pictures ahead of the ceremony and then at the end of the ceremony we just had the recessional and everyone headed to the reception. We didn't do bubbles/rice/flower petals. Actually our church didn't allow it.

Good call. It would be annoying to stand around for a half hour and wait for the bride/groom to take photos. Thanks everyone!

    Before ceremony wouldn't work.

With Option 1, they would wait around. Would probably be annoying (?) I was just worried people would leave right away if we went with option 2, but we can let people know that pictures will be taken so they should stick around.

I was going to do 1 but my photographer said it would be easier to do our exit and get right into our bus. So we took pictures for about 15 minutes inside church and people mingled outside. However, I'd say a good 30% of people left, so looking back I would recommend exit first then back in for photos!
