Gown storage?!

April, on September 1, 2019 at 10:49 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 1 11
Ok, so now that I’ve chosen my wedding dress I am thinking about proper storage for it. I will be picking my dress up at the end of the month and I’m not getting married until NEXT November!! That’s a long time 😂 how has everyone stored their dress prior to the big day? This is definitely not something I had thought about when buying a dress so early!

I used a long garment bag and hung it on the closet. The preference would have been if I could lay it flat somewhere though

That seems to be my best option right now, I ordered a garment bag at David’s bridal so I have something to store it in, but after reading so much online I’m really nervous about storage now 🙄 I have a shelf at the top of my closet so I’m hoping to lay it flat up there but if it doesn’t fit then I might have to hang it

Look it up online. It says to store in a breathable bag (no plastic) and wrap in a white cotton sheet. Also ask the bridal shop since you are storing it for so long.

Yes, I have looked online and read multiple different options and that’s why I was hoping to hear about first hand experiences

I got my dress January of this year and it has been hanging all this time with no issue. I’ll take it down every few months and rest it on the bed but as I said hanging caused no damage at all. Get some of the non slip hangar covers and you should be fine.

I was told to lay flat out of a bag and wrap in white cotton sheet. I got my dress in May of this year and wedding isn’t until next July - so far so good!

I bought my dress in January of 2019, and just kept it in an empty closet in my booknook/office. It had its bag and garment bag, totally covered. Now it's at the dress shop for alterationsSmiley smile

I bought my dress in March 2018 and my wedding was two weeks ago 8-17-19. I used the garment bag the dress place gave me and put it in a closet, closed the closet doors, closed the blinds in the bedroom, and shut the door. Thankfully it was kept at my moms house in my childhood bedroom so no one ever went in there.

I would get it professionally preserved in a box like they do after the wedding. It'll keep it safe, out of light, formed (it'll be properly stuffed to maintain the shape), and protected. When it's time for alterations, just open the box. Most of them have a plastic "window" so you can still gaze at it lovingly from time to time!

Mine is currently hanging in an extra long garment bag in a closet at my mom's house. We put a nail behind the doors in the closet so the dress wouldn't rest on the ground but that's where I'm planning on leaving it until it's time for alterations. I bought mine at a sample sale, so I figure that if it lasted all that time on a hanger at the bridal salon, it'll be fine for a couple more months in a dark closet.
