got my Dress!! Removing layers??

Jazz, on July 18, 2018 at 1:19 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 11
Hey guys! I ended up buying the dress I wanted used from another bride! It’s in perfect condition but unfortunately it doesn’t come with the slit which I wanted, so I’ll be adding it. I thought this was the only different BUT turns out it has more layers too! The slit one I tried on had three. This one has about 6, which I don’t think I need all of! They’re all satin or cotton lookinng but I’m thinking of removing some for the sake of not having so much fabric on me (I’ll be zipline for after the ceremony). Is this something I can do myself? Just cutting them out? I also don’t know how you’d do a slit (not doing that part myself) with so many layers. I’m also getting it shortened a bit too. Has anyone removed layers from their dress or knows someone who has?

Beautiful! How will the zipline harness go over the dress though? Have you contacted them to make sure it will be safe to do this?

That is a gorgeous dress! I don't think I would risk removing layers on your own, unless you have some experience with altering clothing. I would schedule an appointment with a seamstress and get a quote for removing layers and incorporating the slit.

Yes, I've talked to someone! She said it should be fine when I explained what kind of dress I was planning on getting (no poof, minimal layers) and the harness actually won't be going over my dress. I'll be hiking the skirt up and possibly tying it to one side or in on the leg holes. I'm wearing leggings underneath! Although since I'll have a slit, I'll be putting them only for ziplining !

With the slit, they would sew together the layers on the slit so it doesnt look messy.
Dont attempt to remove layers yourself. They may choose certain layers to remove so it lays right/flows

That sounds like it's going to be awesome! I've never been ziplining so I couldn't picture it in my head lol

I'm getting a few recommendations from friends so I'll definitely ask! I got the dress for half of what it is new and don't want to end up spending the same as a brand new dress. I'm sure everyone can attest to how much bridal alterations are (ugh!) on here. Good thing I have plenty of time Smiley smile

Beautiful! But definitely don't cut the layers out, or do the slit, yourself. It's worth it to have a professional do it so you don't run the risk of ruining the seams on the layers you want to keep, or having the fabric around the slit fraying.

I'll be asking a few seamstresses! Just wanted to get some idea if it was an easy enough fix. I'm too nervous anyway haha. Do you think 6 layers sewn together is something that's usually done?

Oh yeah, definitely not doing the slit! I was wondering more so about the layers for doing myself since no one will ever see where I cut :p

Im not sure! Im sure it can be done. Price out seamstresses. If youre nervous, you can even ask for past clients #s and call them for references! Mine offered them up. I ended up not needed any alterations, but still nice to have

I know you want to remove layers yourself but I would recommend the same professional to do both the slit and the removal of layers and to shorten it so everything is done perfect without any regrets.
