Congrats! This site has a useful budgeting tool. I'd say the first thing is to figure out budget and what type of celebration you want (large or small). My FH and I are both introverts and elopement feels more comfortable for us, but I imagine more outgoing people want a big party! It's increasingly common for the ceremony and reception to be on different dates (thanks COVID), but you really get to tailor your celebration to what works best for you.

Then consider what season and location you'd prefer. Planning is fun! Use Pinterest and make different boards for different themes/seasons you come up with, esp with so much time to plan. You might need a backup plan or two, or lose interest in something over time (I did!). That being said, try to hold off on buying anything too soon because you might end up wanting something completely different in a few months.

Congratulations!! We are also doing a long engagement (engaged Nov. 2018 and married June 2021) and it's the best decision ever! There's no need to rush such a special time!! Hope to help you plan as you go along

Congratulations, engaged on leap day 2020. Still feel recent since covid had us locked away We aren't certain on a date yet but maybe a two year engagement will be it since one year has me feeling rushed
