My inspo!Good with Flowers 1

Hey guys! Does anyone have any personal experience in DIYing flowers for their wedding? I just came across something called Fifty Flowers and I am really impressed with their website/set up - and I think the prices will be very reasonable compared to the quotes I've gotten from Florists. Has anyone done their own flowers before? How did they look? (Post pics!!!) And where did you order them from? Smiley smile I'm getting really excited about this project.

We're nixing flowers, however, I would DIY them if we decided to keep them. My family is quite a fan of DIYs

Im thinking of doing the same!! I also need some inspo! I have thought about buying quality fake flowers from Afloral so I could do them way ahead of time and perfect them lol

I was thinking about that too! I want to see some in person to make sure they are pretty and not too fake looking - But one thing that concerns me with the real flowers is how quickly you have to prepare everything ahead of time. A lot of websites suggest 2-3 days prior is when you actually set things up to keep them fresh. But I'm afraid something could go wrong, and then your wedding is literally right around the corner.

I did my own and got them from Trader Joe's, lol. My wedding was super small (34 people) so I only needed to make 3 bouquets, 3 boutonnieres, and centerpieces for 6 tables, plus extras for cake table (we didn't put a topper on the cake; we just had flowers around) windows in the reception roo., etc. We had mismatched bud vases (from thrift stores and my parents house), mason jars we saved a few spaghetti sauce jars that came in glass mason), etc because we were going for a 'quirky, vintage' look, I guess? It was loads of fun, and apparently my youngest brother has an eye for florals, rofl.

Anyway, my advice is to do your research! Watch multiple youtube videos, read articles, etc. Make sure you do a mini practice run (I bought a small amount of flowers from trader Joe's the week before) to make sure you feel good about using the materials - florist tape, shears, floral pins, ribbon - the time to make mistakes and practice is then. I did my actual flowers the day before the wedding - make sure you have people to help you, even if it's just to be a second pair of eyes! Good luck! You'll have a blast!

YES! we are literally on the same exact page. I was thinking of ordering afloral and getting a sample to check them out and make sure they dont look too fake. Then maybe my bridesmaids can keep their bouquet if they want? I was worried about the same thing with real flowers and figuring out transportation and refrigeration for them... but I really dont want to pay for a florist unless I have to..

All my bridesmaids' and my bouquet, centerpieces , aisle flowers were from Sam's club! The rose petals were from Costco. 😊 they were amazing and fun to do!

For sure. It's just too expensive (for me) and just like Brandi, I'm having a very intimate affair. Only 20 people, So I only need a bouquet for me, boutonniere for my FH and then 4-5 table pieces. I should be able to handle that right? Lol

Thank you! They were just hydrangeas and baby's breath. They were very easy to DIY. We didn't even have to refrigerate them! As long as they're in water, they'll be fine. 😊

How early did you make everything before the wedding? I'm afraid of them "going bad" - I've never been great with flowers lol.

They were delivered to our house Thursday and the wedding was on Saturday. I basically just clipped the stems and put them in water and home depot buckets and my bridesmaids helped make the bouquets friday night. The wedding coordinator did the centerpieces at the venue (lanterns and hydrangeas ) I knew nothing about flowers too lol I just watched YouTube videos and followed sam's club instructions on how to care for them. 😊 The savings were quite substantial so I just went for it.

I think I've decided on Fifty Flowers! If you haven't had a consultation, I recommend doing that! You send them inspo photos and then have a conference call where they tell you what flowers are in the photo. They'll help find alternatives if it exceeds your budget and make an ingredients page so you know how many of each stem to put in what arrangement. I haven't gotten flowers yet but the lady I spoke with was very honest in telling me which flowers hold up better and which are more delicate/more likely to show up looking a little dull. They also give you a discount code to use when you orderSmiley smile

Fifty Flowers will pick the date to send them to you based on your wedding date. If one type of flower takes longer to "wake up" than another, that one will come in a day earlier so it has more time to hydrate!

Never! This will be a first for me! I've done a lot of artsy things before. (Jewelry making being a primary hobby) so I'm hoping my hands will just get the hang of it. Wish me luck! Smiley smile
