Good Timing for your Wedding & Reception?

Dylasia, on September 12, 2019 at 7:38 PM Posted in Planning 0 10
What is a good time for a wedding in the winter? I was thinking 3pm because of the need of taking bridal pictures. Also, I thought a good time for a reception is about 5/6pm. Is it appropriate to have large, or small gap between the ceremony and party? And how long should each last?

We're also having a winter wedding but our timeline is restricted by the venue. We can't start the ceremony until 6pm, but we have full use of the grounds up 3 hours prior. Our game plan is to take as many photos beforehand outside and then finish up inside during cocktail hour.

I thought you can’t see the groom until after the wedding?

I’m going to look up photos of couples after their night ceremony.

I'm getting married on December 30th.
We're doing a first look around 11:30, then all family & bridal party pictures in the early afternoon. Ceremony is at 4:30, followed immediately by a cocktail hour (while the room flips from ceremony to reception) and then the reception is starting at 6:30 at the latest.

For my fiance especially, the timing/flow of the ceremony & reception is really important, so we are doing all pictures ahead of time, basically.

We are doing a December wedding and will be starting the ceremony at 1:45. We want to make sure there is light for photos.

Our venue showed us night photos, like this one, and it totally put me at ease. They showed us one where the couple went out on the 18th hole and had a friend spotlight them with a drone. So cool!

I'm getting married in January. My ceremony starts at 4, cocktail hour is from 4:30-5:30, then the reception starts. When I was deciding my timeline, I took two things into consideration:
1: what time "golden hour" is. You can look this up, it's usually about an hour before sunset.
2: whether we were gonna do a first look
Sunset is at 5:30 in OK in January and we wanted the bulk of our pictures together to be during golden hour. We decided not to do a first look so that meant pictures after the ceremony and pretty much set the ceremony time at 4:00

I think a ceremony at 3 is fine, and a reception at 5 or 6 is fine, but I wouldn't combine those two times - I think that's way too long in between. If your guests have to travel to a different location, I think the time to travel plus 10 or 15 minutes is an appropriate gap. Otherwise, I'd recommend going from the end of the ceremony straight into a cocktail hour.
