Good Makeup Brand Suggestions?

Potato, on June 14, 2019 at 1:19 PM Posted in Hair and Makeup 0 7
I've decided to skip the MUA and do my makeup myself. I want to spend miney on dye and style for my hair, and since we're paying for ourselves, I really don't want to go crazy.

I'm not as big of a makeup wearer compared to 5 years ago, but I really want to invest in some GOOD makeup that will STAY on my face for most of the night.

Any suggestions? I'm trying to avoid the drugstore makeups since I already have enough of that! I'm only getting married once, and I really want to look not so oily and sweaty

I would go into Sephora and ask for help and samples. Makeup is one of those things that really depends on your skin type and what works amazingly for one person might not work for another.

What Kelly said. Products are super individual. But one thing for longevity, make sure you prep your skin. Don't skip any steps. Go the whole way with concealer, foundation (you don't need to use a lot of either product, and they don't need to be heavy coverage, but use them), set with a powder, and use setting spray.

I'm just going to try all makeups thingamajigs out (everything!), swatch for my life, when I run out of space on me I'll swatch my fh since we're the same complexion.

I understand that makeup if different on everyone. I was asking for brand names that I could try. I'll just find out! Silly of me to ask for suggestions Smiley smile

Love NYX.. Has shades for every skin tone and is super affordable. The Total Control Dropper is great.. you really don't need that much. I usually blend it with moisturizer or sunscreen for a more natural look. H&M's eyeshadows are nicely pigmented and cheap. Buxom eyeshadows are amazing, you buy a case then six shades to put in them. MAC has a nice selection of lipsticks for like $15-20CAD. NYX has a nice matte lipstick in lipgloss form.. forget the name though right now. I would highly rec getting face and eye primer.. Smashbox is pretty good for that as well as eyeshadow (but the selection of colours is a bit boring). Love Anastasia Beverly Hills for eyebrow pencils and fillers. Stays on all day and night and they have the right kind of auburn I need.

Sephora has a lot of brands but can be pricey. If that doesn't matter then grab everything there. Personally I find the selection and store volume to be overwhelming.

May I ask though, what exactly are you looking for? What kind of colours and what not? I usually opt for brown shades as it goes better with my skin tone and I prefer a natural look. Maybe I could offer more recs if I knew whether you need pink based stuff, olive, etc.

Smashbox is a good starting place. Lots of primers for different skin types, and all really lightweight and lovely-looking. Their stuff is particularly great because it will go on under or over anything, make the makeup stay forever, and famously makes for great photos. When it comes to eye/lip makeup, best to test things out in stores for pigment/longevity/colour match! As weird as it feels walking out of the drugstore with swatches all over your forearms, it's worth it, just to test how long the colour stays, how easily it smudges, etc.

I'm no expert (I only use makeup for costume parties or skin emergencies!!) so I'd recommend you check out Wayne Goss. I'd trust the man with my skin and my life! Smiley laugh Lots of product recommendations and advice for different skin types. And he's lovely. https://www.youtube.com/user/gossmakeupartist
